New plugin question

Now start Blender up. Go to the User Preference pannel. Select the button that says File Paths.
Boxes will pop up. Look for the one that says Python: and in that box you'll see a little button that looks like a note. Click on it. This tells Blender to reevaluate the script files.

This has always puzzled me. I use Blender 2.45 and I have never been able to locate File Paths. And believe me, I have searched and searched. Is the Preferences Panel the menu that opens with the exclamation mark?

What I ended up doing is this: I open the Scripts Window and then Update Menus. And that seems to work...

It looks like a big, fat "i", and it's called User Preferences.

When I click on it, the window that I click on ends up with several buttons in it:
View and Controls
Edit Method
Language and Fonts
Themes
Autosave
System & OpenGL
File Paths

I always open mine in my bottom window, and they are splayed out across the bottom. Clicking on the File Paths button takes me to where the Python: box is.

the default blender configuration has the preferences window open at the top. (that's what the file menu and others are part of) however, you can't see the preferences buttons because the pane has no vertical size, and only the bottom bar is showing. If you drag the "menu bar" down, you'll see the preferences buttons.

Also, all the information on what to install for the new plugin, and how to start creating a book and such are on the new wiki, and the Alcugs wiki is not correct anymore due to the large amount of changes to the plugin.

Ah thanks. I had it open in the upper bar which does not show the buttons. Still, I regularly switch between 0.5 and 1.2 for which Update Menus seems to work fine.
