The French's Mystpedia Age Project

Postby sonic'son » Sat Jan 26, 2008 3:14 am

Hello Guild of Writers, we're some French Uru fan(from http://www.mystpedia.net, a wiki-like about myst), and we want to make our age, but some of us dont know how to speak English, that's why we're trying to make an age together.
A lot of us are very beginner in Blender... so we need some advices and maybe some help..
So let me describe the concept of our age that we want to make :

"TECHNICALLY"

First and foremost we want to make a really multiplayer age , an age (just as an example)where you have to make something every day, or the age will become instable or different...
Just a basic and silly example :) : if i touch the flower today, tomorrow it will be bigger , or beautifull, if not the flower will die ... etc etc

In Myst we have some sort of ages, prison's ages, garden's ages....etc
This would be a "working" age, we're D'ni go for studying etc...

"THE STORY"

One day, some D'ni people wanted to put some vegetations in the cavern to make it more agreable,
but the cavern is dark (even if there is the lake)
so, a D'ni women wrote an age in order to study how to keep flowers, trees, etc in life althougt there is poor wheather for it in the cavern

"THE LANDSCAPE"

This age would be divided at less in 3 parts(for the moment)
- first a little cavern with a laboratory
- and a big garden to study all vegeable, flowers, tree ... but the garden is nearly dead since the fall of D'ni, but not totally dead , just sleeping, waiting for somebody to revive it
- another area to resolve some clues...

"OUR LIMITS (for the moment)"

we're a lot beginners in python

we will need some help to design more flowers etc... and maybe some different states of each things : the beatifull flower, the "medium" flower, and the "ugly flower" :

to begin , maybe 3 states of each things

Hope the project will interest you and you can help us , in our difficulties...

"Firsts blender and pyton questions ":

Blender : - how can we put a mesh on the axis when we want, for example : im designing and moving something, but it's not anymore just on the axis..
is there a shortcut (like changing views), to make it return well on the axis ?

Python : - we have a little program in python, can we make a package of it to send it at our friends who are just working on blender to make them try, without they have to install all python environment ?

PS : i think one day i saw in a website some french who have make their age but i cant find them, maybe you know them ??

Thanks for your help, hope that we will make it

Salut les Français,
Je peux vous aider à traduire, bien que votre anglais est quand même très bon. Il y a quelques autres francophones, je crois que Aloys est Français aussi mais je n'en suis pas certain.

Je ne comprends pas cette question:
Blender : - how can we put a mesh on the axis when we want, for example : im designing and moving something, but it's not anymore just on the axis..
is there a shortcut (like changing views), to make it return well on the axis ?

Que voulez-vous dire exactement par "on the axis"?

Aussi, le plug-in qui permet de modéliser les objets Uru dans Blender a beaucoup changé récemment. Il y a un nouveau Wiki ici:

Thank you :)

By French i would like to mean, all "francophone" speaker, like you !! So we're happy to see that we are not alone ;)

Sorry for my blender's question, i will try to explain better in french :

"Comment "calibrer" un objet pour qu'une de ses faces soit parallèle à un axe (genre les x, ou les y) ? Si j'ai bougé un objet dans tous les sens, et que je veux le remettre bien à plat sur l'axe horizontal."

could you translate that chacal or another francophone (do we say francophone?:)) ??

- another question, tue python programmer, is using "pygame" to train herself, it is good with uru ??

- can you , chacal, or/and other francophone speaker can you help us a bit, on our forums, and make us share your "made age experience",maybe some pictures ?? and sometime resolve our little issues ??

http://www.mystpedia.net/forum/viewforum.php?f=19

- then did i explain clearly enough; the "ame" of the age that we want to make ?? Is it possible ??

see you soon

OK your question is: We have an object that has been moved randomly along all axes. How can we "snap" it back so that it's parallel to the horizontal grid?

I'm a Blender noob myself, but I suggest you search the Blender documentation for "grid", "constrain", "snap", etc.
As for your python question: the python environment you need for testing programs is minimal (just download what's recommended in the GoW wiki), but testing python programs inside Uru requires having Uru installed.

I think you explained the concept of your Age very well.
Technically, it is feasible, although I don't think we have all the required knowledge right now.
This will need some python programming, SDL variables and messages between objects. I know nothing yet about any of these things but some people here are quite advanced. They are gaining the knowledge by hacking the existing files, because Cyan has not helped them in any way yet.

I will have a look at your site as soon as I can.

They can take a look at the object properties while in Edit Mode, by hitting the N-key with the mouse in the 3D window.

This will bring up the objects coordinates. You'll have the X, Y, and Z coordinate in Local and in Global.

Global is what they want. The very center of the grid is coordinates 0,0,0
Changing each coordinate in Global mode will move the object in referance to the grid, so say they needed the object 5.25 blender units above the grid, they can type 5.25 in the Z coordinate box and the object will snap it's center to exactly 5.25 blender units above the grid. Hit the "-" key after typing in the numbers and it will put the object's center exactly 5.25 units below the grid.

Now, if they look at the properties of the object in Object mode, they'll see the Rotational coordinates. Since they said the object has moved on all axis, I'm assuming here that they've got it kind of rotate around wrong or slightly off.

By looking at, and adjusting the values of the RotX: RotY and RotZ, they can fine tune each of the axis to put it back where they want and need it rotation wize.

This doesn't "Snap" the object (and they need to be careful with that, as using Snap can transform the object into something strange looking), but it will put the object right back where they need it.

They also need to be mindful in the future when moving or rotating objects that they might want to hit that X, Y or Z key to constrain the movement of the object (that and if it looks like it's not moving right to simply hit the Escape Key to cancel out what they were doing).

Chacal, if their English is not that good (and I'm afraid I don't understand too much French, I'm more fluent in Italian), you might want to translate this for them. I'm glad you're there to help them! :D

Hi,

to introduce me, I can say I'm one of the The French's Mystpedia Age Project programmer.

My question is about development environment. Actually I'm on Mac os and I didn't find ULM (and I don't speak about URU Path to D'ni  ) for this platform.
Can you say me if I have a chance to found it somewhere ?

If I make the age and can not play with it I will be sad ;).

Only MOUL will run on the mac. There was never a mac version of Uru - CC/PotS which is required to run the fan made ages, so, unfortunately, you'll need to use windows somehow to run your ages.

There should be a way to run it through an emulator, although I can't recall anyone here having done it.

So, I'm sad. I will have to go back to my husband PC (He will not be happy too).

Is it possible to build Age on Mac and play on Windows? or to build it I have to abandon my Mac too?

(I cross my fingers, I cross my fingers, ...)

Vous pouriez utiliser le programme Blender3D sur votre Mac pour crée et exporter votre création, mais pour le voir dans Uru et pour le jouer il faut un ordinateur avec Windows :(

You can run Blender on a Mac to create and export your Age, but to see and play it in Uru you will need a computer running Windows.
