That's all, folks

Anything that isn't directly related to Age Creation but that might be interesting to Age developers.

Everyone, I have an idea. It is... sharded... but it may work.

There could be ways to implement old coding from Uru:CC to build a new Online version. I've just sent a message to Chacal, hoping that SOME of the information we downloaded from GameTap when we got MOUL was transferred to a file which can be opened in PyPRP and Blender.

If it can, and we open Ages like Jalak, Minkata, Reziksehv and Ae'gura, we can find coding that will allow MULTIPLE PEOPLE INTO ONE AGE.

From this, we can also take similar coding, analyze it, and eventually build up a new MOUL from the older coding of Uru:CC.

I know it may not work, but we need to try everything possible. Rand Miller once said that the hardest part about things like this is not to be given a chance to fail, rather then fail altogether. We MUST band together and find a way, make a home, BUILD A NEW D'NI and BUILD A NEW URU if we are every to see eachother in the way MOUL brought us together.

I reach out to you all, in EVERY Guild and in EVERY form of Myst, we have to find some way to take what we have and build from it. WE must be the Growers of a new Uru, a new Gathering, a new World.

The first step is to bring the Guilds together and plan for the future. After that, only time will tell.

The Ending has NOT Yet been Written.

Indeed, this news is of a most dreadful sort. I hardly know what to think.

I am only glad that the tools needed to continue our work here are yet at our disposal. That, at least, is something.

Hmm... from what I remember, wasn't there a movement back in the UU days where a group was able to run multiplayer Uru from their own server? Seems to me that, once the legal issues surrounding this have been worked out, a path such as that might remain open to us.

As long as we're discussing porting, I was toying with the idea of importing new ages such as Minkata or Jalak into the old URU:CC as if they were custom made ones. I can imagine that (because there's no .pak file) it would involve opening them in blender and exporting them, then using ULM to bring them in game.

Unfortunately, my knowledge runs out at the first bit, but if there's someone more well-informed, maybe they could try that.

EXACTLY Dovahn. That's what I'm trying to see if it's possible to do. IF IT IS, we can do the same thing that was done with UU's movement, but it would be able to support Multiplayer functionability :D

Few points.

1. why on Keraths name did you wait till now to drop the "pre" from the GoM

2. 6000 is not enough people to support MOUL, you need to be looking at 30,000 as a start in order for the fees to start making sense.

3. Instead of rushing off to code another "UU" like thing how about waiting for Cyan to see what they are going to do after. Not to mention the legalities involved would mean any fan endevour would probably shot down pretty quickly.

Well aren't you optimistic.

We understand what could happen, yet we are going to do everything we can to keep Uru alive.

Since Tweek asked:

1) Because we were waiting on Cyan to decide how the guild were going to go, and didn't want to be presumptuous.
No need now I guess!

2) Have my own question. If 3,000 or 6,000 ain't enough, and 30,000 is more like it. Then WHY oh WHY did Cyan respond with a "We're just fine." everytime we would ask how things were going, and if we needed to be doing something about getting more signed up?
I'm serious! People were asking this question, and we kept getting told "We're fine." or "We don't know how many there need to be."

I'm sad, sure, but I'm afraid that is the one thing that ticked me off when GD said partly it was the lack in player base.
I know, it may have been too late even then, or we (explorers may not have been able to recruit THAT many). But it still kinda feels like a "Hey wait a minute!" moment.

Ah well................

Nek'rahm,
You're thinking what we're all thinking.
Technically, yes, we can start Uru again (Alcugs servers). Maybe we can get Cyan to release code, specs, files. Right now, Trylon, Hoikas and Paradox, to name a few, can read MOUL files. We're in no danger of losing the new Cyan content.

What we do now will depend more on these questions: Do we have a future? Will we do all this in vain? At its peek, there was just a handful of players in UU.

I'm ready to try, though. When the first Live went down, I only watched. Now I can do something. I can host a shard or fund one. I can start coding again. I can make Ages. And we're a bunch who can do that.

If there was enough people with me on this, I would start a small Uru for enthusiasts, a MORPG instead of a MMORPG, entirely based on growing content. No Cate, no DRC, no Bahro wars and all that crap. One shard, few restrictions on how to play the game. One Library full of books, with new ones being added frequently. A showcase for our Ages, a meeting place.

If the ending has been written at Cyan (and Tweek is right, we must give them some time to decide on that), but there's really people over there who don't want their dream to end, let them come forward, meet our devs, share code and knowledge. We can take the MOUL servers over and concentrate on writing new content. It will be rather bland at first, but it will get better and better.

Trylon, Paradox, Hoikas, Almlys, it's pretty much in your hands if Cyan doesn't cooperate. Please don't keep whatever discussions you'll be having to yourselves.

Still sleeping and processing here :)

Let's just say for now that I'm reading something optimistic there in Tweek's third point. Maybe it's actually there, maybe it isn't.
One day I ran through the cleft for the fiftieth time, and found that uru held no peace for me anymore.

Three options I see......

Try to get UU back, and build off of it, one way or the other. (I dislike this idea immensely)

Poor all resources into Alcugs.

Try to develop an independent server ourselves.

The last one would be the hardest to do.
