I see where your coming from Andy. :)

But... what is there to hide? The main reason that we'll import the ages is to make sure people are on the right track with the mechanics of age building. The ages they make should look good inside and out. They shouldn't just be a shell of an age. We're trying to reward good methods just as much as a good age(I hope you agree, other RAD judges).

And...

Sorry...

To...

Bring...

Out...

This...

Saying...

"Only criminals are afraid of cameras."

I think it's sort of like that. With non-open-source software they hide the source so people won't steal it (and to hide mistakes :P ) but here... nobody here will steal your age from the blend--they can just as easily steal it from the .prp files.

It's just a mind-set thing.

Oh and also, your age ROCKS, Andy.
Keep up the good work.

The plugin has a perfectly usable import feature that can easily take what appears in Uru and drop it into Blender.

I think you'll find that many Age developers are very against the idea of posting .blend files.

Ok, I just finished reading through three pages of thread.
I'll fix up the ULM issue asap. (Yeah, I've been too busy on my age and some other stuff to look at the forums.)

Whenver did the issue of .blend file submission come up?
I don't like having to submit my blend files....

I too fail to see the need to post the .Blend file as importing would raise attention to meshes with high vertice count.
I have on problem with uploading it as it would be continued to be developed after the contest.
But I won't be able to do it for several hours because its currently Monday here in NZ and I am at work.

Actually, looking back at the thread, it is only a question from Aloys this afternoon and an opinion from Dot.
This isn't looking like an official criteria to me. I think some people are over-reacting.

Again, I understand the demand. But y'all will have to wait. I have to get consent from the others that also own this Age.

And yes, Criminals do hide things. I should know. I did 3 years in prison. Something stupid I did (non-violent, don't worry, borrowed something I shouldn't have borrowed), so I guess one could say I know what it means to be a criminal in the justice system.

My only contention is this:

There is no Great Manual Of Age Building Criteria. Only opinions and thoughts.

But again, it's not my call, it's up to the other members of my team. Not only do they own the Age too, some of them are modelers and have built many things in the Age, and may not have been aware that someone was going to be picking their models apart, only looking at them and judging how they looked and performed in the Age.
I've PM'ed them, hopefully they'll all check in and give me an answer soon.

Really, Andy, I'd just check with the judges to see if this is really a requirement. Judging by the general reaction, my guess is it won't.

A question:
Can we get an extension of the deadline of 24 hrs, so I can get the contest ULM fixed?
The problem is that I used the maintainer version, which is switched to explicit php5, with is giving file path problems wiht my server.

And the best thing to do if judges want to see the ages blend file, is import it.
It's better than requiring people to submit their blend files, as submitting blend files correctly is pretty error-prone.

The ULM is really only needed afterwards for distributing the Ages isn't it?

ULM can easily handle Ages that have been downloaded in zip files, extracted, and placed in the /dat directory. It shouldn't be an issue until the Ages are actually be released as winners.

I know that phrase is over-used and un-true but... I couldn't help using it. It was so, perfect.

For those who have changed their view of me from "Lontahv is ok." to "Lontahv is bonkers" I'm sorry. :?

I kind of understand why you folks don't want to give your blends... we're perfectly able to import them into blender. Are we allowed to do that?
