Postby Keith Hemari » Sun Mar 02, 2008 3:13 pm

Greetings! Ah, I hope I'm doing the right thing here.

My name is Keith Hemari, I've been a Myst fan since the first game came out and I played it on my aunt's computer. I first played URU in the Complete Chronicles era (would have played sooner, except my computer wasn't equal to the task), and got into Until URU late it it's run, participated in the Beta for MO:UL and have been puttering about the cavern since. I recently took a break from the cavern, for various reasons, and was very dismayed to see the closing notice, when I returned.

I feel shamed to say I had no idea this place existed, until just recently (last night, as a matter of fact) when Nadnerb told me about it. Until now, I had thought that making ages of our own was a great, if unlikely idea. Something we would have to wait for Cyan to give us the power to do. What he's told me makes the whole thing seem a far better prospect. Whatever should be the fate of MO:UL, perhaps we can carry on the dream ourselves.

That said, I don't know what skills I could bring to age-crafting. I'm an idea man, mostly. I can sketch and write fairly well. I am fond of story-telling and love to write back-story. Creativity is my first love, you might say :)

I have very little experience with modeling, and have a pathological fear of Blender's GUI

So, ah, Shorah, all!

Ah, great to see you here. :D

We certainly have lots of room for idea people for the :geek: people to work with. ;)

Hi,

Thought it about time I registered and said hello. I have just started teaching myself Blender (and posting on the Alcugs forum for help) and have been creating a few test ages to practice my poor technique! No doubt I will be asking for much help along the way as I try and expand my age-writing capabilities. Currently wrestling with textures and lighting (e.g. how to make my underground maze dark and spooky and stop those textures reflecting a non-existant light source!).

I have enjoyed my time in MOUL as Ekimmai and Id'no - and will be dropping into There from time to time as the latter to greet some old Uru buddies! Is there an official meeting place for the GoW now that MOUL if offline (for when I need to pick a brain or two)?

Hey y'all!

I started with Myst probably a couple of years after it was introduced. Eventually I completed Riven and Exile. About 2 years ago I was so hungry for more that I finally got Myst 4 and 5. I even found several games that looked Myst like such as Aura and Mysterious Journey. I was still playing Myst 4 when I found URU CC. This was also when I read the 3 Myst books and became ever more fascinated by the backstory. I got about half way through Uru CC and took the leap to join Game Tap in Oct. so I could play MOUL. That was huge for me because I had never played online and didn't "chat".

Finding that I would need help for Ahnonay almost made me quit. It took a while to get the courage up to ask for help. Okay, I was scared to death. But I appreciated everyone's help and kindness so much after that and was so glad I had stepped out of my comfort zone. Slowly I was able to talk to more people even taking part in Tsogal and Delin runs. That just sounds like a normal activity to many of you but took a lot of courage for me. Some of you may have seen me there. I am bibi2gbs. I use it in the present tense because I beleive URU will come back in some fashion. I was rescued from a DRC bevin about 2 months before the end. I didn't understand about joing neighborhoods or what neighbors were for until I was asked to join Myssterrie's bevin. At last I really felt a part of things.

When I found out about the guilds I totally did not get it. Was it just a pretend IC part of the storyline I wondered. So you can see how "green" I was. Probably still am. But I want to learn so much. I am a member of GoMa and have been testing ages. Now a new desire has been awakened in me. Is it even possible that I could learn to write an age? Whether or not that comes to pass, I feel a new excitement that has been missing, and that alone might just be enough.

MOUL has helped me to grow in ways I could not have imagined. You can now find me in SL and THERE under variations of Bibi. This new virtual world is my next but hopefully not final frontier. ( Um...do ya think I like a little Star Trek?)

I look forward to getting to know you and please be patient if I say stupid things or ask dumb questions in my ignorance and eagerness. I'll try not to be too much of a pest.

I suppose I've been gone long enough to post my "Hello again everyone" in this thread...

Life's been pretty crazy for the past couple of years, but I think things are calmed down enough that I can get back into Uru again. I unfortunately missed Myst Online in its entirety. For those who are new, or who have just forgotten me, I was working on adding graphical elements to the Blender plugin so that properties don't have to be manually set for everything. I think I still have my old mockups and the python code for them, but I don't know if any of it is still valid with the latest version of the plugin.

Anyway, I pretty much need to start from scratch on Age making, it's been way too long. I'm glad to be back, though. This is an awesome community.

Hello, I am Metabasalt, and I have enjoyed playing all of Cyan's games from Myst all the way through Uru online. I am a teacher, and I am interested in developing educational ages. I have used uru software with my son and in the high school classes that I teach. I have a strong background in the sciences and Math (Ph.d. in geology and paleontology). I have used 3ds max and Truespace to do 3d modelling, and I have programmed in Flash 8. I am learning C++, and have been developing software using the GDK from http://www.thegamecreators.com. I would like to know if 3ds max and Truespace can be used instead of blender. Although I presume that GoW uses blender because it is free. I am looking forward to working with other uru/myst enthusiasts to develop ages.
