The gist of what I'm getting from people's comments is something like an outer promenade with its outside walls made of glass. The inner wall would be solid and at the center(inside this wall) would be where the display areas are. It may be cool to have the top-most level completely encased in glass to house a local, 'natural' exhibit.

This allows the public to break the mood attatched to each room by stepping out of the galleries to the promenade and viewing the jungle. It's like a cracker or swill of water after a wine tasting. Vagwen... your picture is right on the money. As long as the windowed hallway doesn't end and continues around the corner.

I also like the idea Vagwen has for the wall colour. That hue of purple in nearly neutral... i like it a LOT

Just so it's clear, my idea on the Main Building of the ERC, where all the art would be displayed, would have 3 solid walls and 1 glass wall that surrounds the Cone. Though the top of the building would be all glass for music.

But it may not be too bad of an idea to use the glass walls as a divider to other galleries, so there would be essentially (if I understand this right) hallways around the perimeter of the building, in between the galleries and the glass. So then the galleries would be boxes inside a glass building, is that correct?

That's the way it was evolving in my mind.
Essentially it is the museum and all of it's galleries contained within a glass box where one side ( the back wall ) is opaque.

I imagine myself walking along the outer hall with the jungle on my left and the solid inner wall on my right. I imagine looking at the jungle after being in a dark, moody gallery and my mood being neutralized so I am ready to view a new style of art. We could even frost the glass so that the jungle is muted and only general shapes of colour show through.
The top most gallery is all glass as Monkeyboy said. Just think of the AMAZING view whilest music restorations are playing thought hidden speakers.

How does that all sound to you all?

I'm not sure if you have the building planned out yet, but if you don't, here's something I made in blender quickly. The empty parts in the building are supposed to be glass, the solid parts; solid wall. The cubes are people-sized. I've made it so that more or less levels can be added easily, and so there's always a window across from the solid wall (nice lighting).

Because I'm not a architectural student.

It just kind of evolved from a simple "L" shaped building.

Since Lontahv said i could 'moroph' his design (and without at all considering its use in the ERC), i note that as an L shape, it seems incomplete -- as if it were waiting for its other half. Here is one way that Phase A could be completed in Phase B:

With this expansion the design would contain a pair of courtyards which look in opposite directions out into the landscape. A special object could be set into the landscape for each of them, giving a focal point. The focal point could be anything from a nearby piece of sculpture to a distant mountain peak, depending upon the setting.

An argument for this particular expansion plan derives from Lontahv's design, where the white wing is not quite the same width as the black wing. Thus, in the expansion, that disparity could be used to make the new white wing narrower still-- allowing a generous passage from courtyard to courtyard.

Most importantly, however, Plan B completes the promise of the original plan, making a sufficient composition out of the whole.

BUT, i have no idea at all as to how this fits into the ERC's scheme of things. It would not surprise me if they think that it is too 'architecty' -- not organic enough. If so, maybe you could turn it into a cabbage? Or maybe a banana? [I love banana and fresh coconut cream pie.]

In the meantime, i note that Lontahv is NOT an architectural student, which shows to me that he could well have been one. Perhaps it will not embarrass him too much if i point out how well done is the jointure around his windows. The corner to corner patterns that he makes – a sort of checkerboard affair – are just the thing for a good early designer to invent. He would get an A for this in my basic design class.

[Now that i have buttered him up, perhaps he won't be all that unhappy if i 'morph' to Plan C. It shows how Plan A could be expanded into a cube, keeping the very same theme of the original design, but creating three courtyards: One very well contained in the center, and then the two other outward projecting ones.
Also, the cube could be totally enclosed by roofing the whole thing and enclosing the courtyards in glass – which would not harm the outward projecting spatial slots.]

Hmm, I know what you mean about the organic shapes. Maybe shape it like an egg. (of course with a different texture )

Or maybe like a stream--kind of flat and wavy.
