Unroutable Age prefixes!

Paradox wrote:IMO, it would be much better to hold off on reserving a "valid" prefix until you are actually distributing the Age via ULM, and then ULM can generate one for you. That way, only released Ages would be taking up space on the list of prefixes.

This is a very logical and practical solution.

Ehren initially did exactly what you suggested, Paradox - not reserving a unique prefix, just using the default (100) - and he still ran into a conflict. This was his first age, so he must have obtained another age that used the default.

I think everyone should at least have one valid, unique prefix reserved.
Can we rebuild it? Yes, we can - here's how.

/steering this back to topic :)

I am the one who helped Ehren, but I am a newby myself... only thing I did was send him a copy of a basic "age" I KNEW worked for me, including the Blender source. But you are quite right, I did not change to sequence number to anything else.

It's not the prefix that is the problem... the .age Sophia sent me had 100 and it worked in Uru, but when I used the blend file to export the age myself, it wouldn't work! So it is HAS to be something wrong with my computer or blender install, since the .blend I was sent definately had all it needed besides just the export step.

Plus I tried changing the number twice for my own age to export, and it still didn't work.

I know it can't be me making the mistake now, but I don't know how I would go about fixing this. Well, I guess I could have gotten a bad download...

Interestingly, I'm having this exact problem under very different circumstances. I haven't found time to do anything with PyPRP since last October, so I decided to manually update my Tromegahl blend file to the new version so I could understand what had been changed. I replaced the book and spawn points and changed all the collision settings.. and I'm using a reserved age prefix (set in the text editor). But yeah, when I try to link to it I get the loading bar and Uru just quits to desktop.

This is EXACTLY what is happening with Camp Bravo Night Time that I've been upgrading. The only way I can link in is by deleting the save file, and moving the book around with the ULM to different slots. Takes about 3 tries before I can link in and NOT crash to the desktop

I have an older age that is exhibiting a very strange amount of instability for no apparent reason as well, but it's only the one... all the other ages that I'm exporting are fine... so I'm not sure what's going on here. It also seems to vary between individual exports.... one time it will crash on load, I'll change something seemingly irrelevant, and it will work again, back and forth.... It doesn't seem to have to do with ULM, because all this happens without ever moving it to different linking books.

I didn't experience this myself until I used the Wizards to upgrade the Age. Then found out that the Wizard is for pre 1.0.0 Ages (because I didn't bother reading the tutorial, so MY fault on that one  )

However, I went through and removed all the col_flags, deleted the book and created a new book, etc, etc. I've been over the Age with a fine tooth comb and come up empty handed.

I have this happen if I just change something in the python files too!

Now all the other Ages: Zephyr, Andy_Nexus, Dot's Office, Camp Bravo Day Time, they all load just fine with no problems. But I haven't tried to make any changes with them......yet.

Of course due to the large amount of changes in the plugin, it's not as easy as just "roll back" to an earlier plugin to see if that's the problem as I'd have to go in and change everything again. That's a bit much to do, hehe.

My guess on this matter is that it is caused by bugs in pyprp that are mainly coming forward by use of that wizard when you're not supposed to.
One day I ran through the cleft for the fiftieth time, and found that uru held no peace for me anymore.

I didn't use the wizard at all, though.. I didn't want to convert my Age blindly without understanding what it was doing. (Plus I wasn't positive what version I'd made Tromegahl with. o.o)
