Pretty sure I know what at least one of those is, as Trylon mentioned it awhile back with the same statement of not knowing if it would work or not.

hmm then I have to suggest something that may not please everyone (read: Trylon)..
Shouldn't the ULM site be part of the GoW site?
If the GoW site is supposed to be the be all and end all of all things Writing related, and because Writing is so tied to ULM anyway.. And if it expands in such a direction, then it looks even more like something that could (maybe even should) be part of the GoW site..

Actually, ULM is more tied to the GoMa site, and they are providing hosting for a ULM database.

Ah, I agree entirely, aren't we the ones making the ages? the maintainers inspect them, but we create them. Why can't they simply have a link here to the GoW site? that would be more appropriate, and easier if it was like a wiki, where anyone could add their age, and it's info.

I don't think you people understand the fact that the maintainers will be distributing the ages. It has been moving that way for quite awhile (and that's how it was when the real D'ni Guilds existed). We create the ages, maintaineers inspect and distribute them. You've certainly notice how ULM isn't a GoW project... Right? O.o

I do feel that offering some form of showcase is useful however, and I have been mulling around ideas for changes to the GoW main page. But, every time I read this thread, my enthusiasm is crushed like a spider underneath my foot.

well then, what do you suggest? What about our Ideas "crush your enthusiasm"? This thread isn't specifically about a database on GoW, but rather, any improvement to the home page would be good... heck, I'd be happy if we just had the original home page back.

This is a good point.

In all honnesty: no; not at all. I went this week end to the GoMa forum, which was the first time in weeks, and I was surprised to actually see a ULM project forum over there with quite a bit of activity going on. I can't speak for others, but I feel we (writers) aren't too heavily involved with the GoMa activity; and certainly not as much as we should. I know I'm just too busy working on my own stuff and constantly keeping up with all the tools changes/additions to be aware of what's going on outside this forum.

This example is just one of many that makes me think that in the future the 'guilds' system may be an hindrance just as much as it may be helpful. This will keep some parts of the community apart when it should help us stay together. This probably would have worked great with Live and Cyan support. But now that all this is gone this system just can't work the same.. We're a small community, and with Live dead it can only get smaller; having all kinds of separate groups like that is not gonna help us I fear. But I'm disgressing.

Honestly, it feels like if I were to even try and expend the effort on making a new page for all of you, it wouldn't be good enough. Instead, it's like everything isn't good enough. Now, I can understand complaints as well as the next person, and this is a very valid complaint, but I must ask: instead of continuing with what is probably a 7 page discussion, why didn't you create a proof-of-concept of some sort that might make it a tad bit easier for us to implement your ideas?

Oh, I forgot. You're too busy asking the imaginary PHP God who has infinite free time to write some bizarre application that will interface with phpBB and magically do something that is better suited to the Guild of Maintainer's website.

Ah... well, what makes you think that whatever you come up with won't be good enough? Where have I been criticizing? The only thing I can think you might be refering to, is the fact that I think the homepage could be better, but is there anything wrong with that? I didn't really originally want a special library of ages, notice that all I said was"here is a list of possible Ideas" and everyone else liked the idea. Once again, I don't care what new things are added, I'll just be happy if we have a homepage similar to our old one back.

The problem with this thread is not your ideas Justin, the problem is the way you are putting your ideas forth.

The website staff is limited. Heck the whole dang place is limited, and as Aloys pointed out, it will most likely get smaller before it gets bigger.

Now what your doing is throwing ideas (read: pipe dreams) at us, and wording your posts like you expect us to pull this stuff out our nose in a couple hours. The people agreeing with you are not helping either.

What you should do is try to build something like what you want for the website or at least try to find someone willing to create these functions (this doesn't necessarily have to be a member here either). If you manage to set up or at least make a system that we can copy for the page, then that would take most of the pressure off of the staff who are already beyond busy keeping up with the average 10-20 threads created, posted in, and edited per 12 hour period.

Not to mention we are also creating code and ages at the same time while we live our real lives as well.

But you all can go ahead and keep making suggestions. Just please don't expect anything to happen unless you help make it happen.
