GoW home page

General debates and discussion about the Guild of Writers and Age creation

hmm, well if I'm coming across that way, I certainly didn't mean to... I was actually trying to be cautious, after they way I came across with my guild website suggestion thread, but apparently it's not helping. I don't expect anyone to do anything about my suggestion, and I put this Idea out there, to see if anyone else liked the Idea. I guess I should just not suggest anything, and keep my concerns to myself. However, I have one question: do you guys still have the original home page? if so, can't you just add a link to the wiki, to the forum, delete the H'uru link, and the meetings tab, and be done? (I apologies if it's more difficult than that, but I honestly don't know how long this kind of thing takes)

BTW, regarding ULM being GoW or GoMa:
I consider ULM to be a joint venture between GoW and GoMa.

For use on e.g. GoW homepage, ULM could generate a special page (without styles) listing ages, description etc, which can be included by the Gow homepage parser.
One day I ran through the cleft for the fiftieth time, and found that uru held no peace for me anymore.

The basic problem, Justin, is that you're making work for people who don't need work found for them. And when you post those ideas in the forum to get reaction, it adds more pressure. Now, ideas are good, of course. But they would honestly be better given out when people have more time (or at least just PMed to the admins).

As for a home page, I, at least, have better things to do than to make a home page for the benefit of people who cannot bring themselves to click a single link to find out about the guild. I would rather get the plugin refined and ages produced. THAT is the Guild's future, not a pretty front page.

Well, one of my main concerns is that, I think there should be a better way for news to be carried on GoW, like for example, lets' say I need a bunch of people who're good at lighting, if I posted a topic on it, people might see the topic, but not as much people would read it, and vollenteer. Now, if there was a news section, I could just post on there, asking if anyone is willing to help, and everyone who visited the site could see it. Anyway, I just think there should be more communication on this forum. Also, how am I supposed to know if "people have no time"? , there seems to be no message in people's sigs saying "don't ask me for anything, I'm buisy!" and, I didn't PM an admin, because I wanted other's opinions on the idea. I value the opinions of my fellow guildsmen, and I just wouldn't feel right not knowing what everyone else on thought.

I've been following this thread for a while from a distance (as I really don't have much time to contribute, let alone do proof of concepts or templates).
I don't understand some of the recent reactions. Granted, Justin is full of juvenile enthusiasm, but I don't see how his suggestions could be construed as demands or putting pressure, or crushing enthusiasm. Maybe I missed a post somewhere.

Seems to me that's what a forum is for, discussing ideas. If nobody wants to take those ideas and turn them into something concrete, then what's the problem?

The reaction I do like and can understand is "Sure, go ahead and post a mock-up, or throw some code together for a prototype and we'll try it". Now that gives Justin guidance about what to do next.

Well, I think something needs to be done about the home page, this however is not that pressing. I also think that if I asked about it, someone would seriously consider it, but since Justin is asking, he is taken with a grain of salt. It's the "boy who cried wolf" thing. ;)

I know I'm probably stiring the conversation slightly off topic again here, but I think that having a central place to post updates about Ages should be considered an important feature, if not a 'pressing' one. Because if there's one thing this Guild is about it's producing Ages. And we don't even have a central news page for those. That doesn't make sense to me. That's why I suggested an 'Ages updates' sticky thread.
(As I mentionned previously, over the last couple weeks a number of Ages have been added or updated, and even as someone who read this forum daily I wasn't aware of all of them..)

I also think a sort of Ages 'Database' would be important too. But that's probably more of a long term goal, and something to see with Trylon and/or the GoMa. (Also it definitely doesn't belong to the home page.)

I consider it an essential part, as we/I plan on having the winners Age/Shell picture on the front page so that we can attract more to the cause and give, hopefully, real kudos to the winner as well as a image gallery (day by day or weekly change) of Ages/Shells already out

Why would I be taken with a grain of salt? the only other time I posted something that people got mad at, was a perfectly harmless suggestion for an improvement of the guilds, and on this topic, I didn't write anything that might offend anyone, so I don't see how everyone is always criticizing me, and saying that I'm being rude of offensive.

Well, people seem more eager to jump on what you say than with others, I'm not really hoping I can provide answers, only the current mindset of some of the other members of the guild.
