CC and Vista

Postby Tinuviel » Sun Jun 01, 2008 7:20 am

This is probably the wrong forum to ask this, but I did not know where els to put it. Sorry.

I just got a new laptop with Vista and was looking forward to installing URU CC to day. But my pc will not start the istallation. Instead it starts to hang and lock my pc. Anyone else had this problem and do you know a way around it?

According to several people here, CC runs fine on Vista.

Yes I run Vista, but I installed all Myst games, apart from one, on before Vista SP1 was installed. I can play all the Myst games without to many problems. Sound on Myst is crackly but it plays soundly. Riven and Exile is excellent. I have Uru ABM ( which I just installed over SP1) as well as CC and they both work fine. Revelations played well, very well indeed. Myst V EoA had only one bug but that didn't hamper the game play much. But there is one big difference I can see is that I have a deaktop with all named quality products installed. I'm not saying that your laptop is sub standard it's just that laptops can be slighty different than a desktop in how it handles certain functions, but I am no geek. This what I have pickup during my many hours of reading forums.
Good luck

Thanks for your reply. There is only one account, and I am using it. But I perhaps Vista is different than XP that way. Can it be that I do not have the adm.account even if this is the only account? I still have not tried the other games, but I will as soon as I can to see if this goes for all.
I tried it again on my old computer and it works fine installing it there. But on my new one, all I get is the opening of SetupUru. And that is blank. And then it just stops, or rather goes and goes but nothing loads. If I rightclick on it to end the set up, I get the message Windows explorer is not responing. What does explorer got to do with it:-) After a while everything at the bottom bar stops responding. (But I can still use IE and can switch between windows using alt-tab)
Since my last post I have checked that it is a authentic(?) copy. And tried with the compability tester. I also got a message right now that rundll32 has a problem.

Edit: now alt-tab soped working. better restart:-)

I use Vista 64, and CC runs fine on it, never had any troubles. I have just a standard installation for one user, I just boot up the computer and it works off the bat. For a brand new laptop, the graphics card should not be a problem either. Hope you get it working!

Just a small question, in order to use ULM I will need CC or Path of the Shell? Or is it enough with URU ABM?

Most (if not all) of the ages currently in use were exported for PotS/CC, and ULM requires PotS/CC, so you will need either in order to most of view the fan ages.

Ohh bug... Just got words back from support. Most likly my disk drive do not support the cd. Their suggestion: burn a copy and install from my copy. First it's copy protected and I guess it is illegal to. Guess I have to find a place to download it from instead.

Using CloneCD (google "CloneCD") you can also copy a copy protected disk.
And since you won't be distributing your copy, it can be considered a working copy or a backup copy, which is practically legal in any case.
One day I ran through the cleft for the fiftieth time, and found that uru held no peace for me anymore.
