"Hot potato" age.

Postby Jojon » Sat Jul 12, 2008 4:51 am

I spun this thread off the RAWA's guidlines thread, upon reading this comment:

I'm betting Cyan is not going to let them near their stuff (as it should be). I wouldn't want someone fiddling my age around, would you?

Actually I've been thinking of cleaning up my first old attempt at age exporting (just a simple mesh basically - needs updating to gow-pyPRP) and gague the interest in trying a silly little bit of toying around with it.

It'd be a matter of passing the .blend file between people who want to participate. Each has a few days to add or change something -- could just be a comment in the general concept description and then it'd be sent to the next participant, with all additions/changes added to its history list.

No competition, just plain messing about -- would it end up something or just a gooey mush? -Who knows?

Thoughts? :7

Sounds odd and fun! :)

If I had added "without the other author's consent" then you might have not had this idea.

I hope in MORE there are some age-making events where a group of people get together on a public R+W age and just make fun stuff. 8-)
Currently getting some ink on my hands over at the Guild Of Ink-Makers (PyPRP2).

 The process should be a little slower, but yeah the idea sounds pretty similar.

It could be a pretty fun project. :)

Ahaah, interesting! I meant to have the contributors see the whole thing so far, though, which would mean we'd not get the same sort of... "accidental" creativity, but I think we could live with that, as long as everybody are clear on that everybody may not have the same ideas on where to take it and are willing to accept that.

Looks like there may be a tiny bit of interest, so I've loaded the thing up and started butchering its polygon count... I may be doing that with a bit too much zeal, but it's probably sensible to favour performance over smoothness, especially when one have no idea where it will all go, if anywhere.

If I get it sorted out, I'll pitch it again some time after RAD2 and see whether anybody want to get in on it.
The important bit is that anybody can add/change as much or little as they desire and that the contribution can be of any nature (an object, a drawing, a puzzle concept, a noise, a snippet of scripting, a newly composed opera, something moved an inch to the right, where it lines up better with something else, a full journal entry, just a suggestion, a limerick, whatever), meaning it's open to anyone - not just modellers.
