The Nexus: Where Is It?

Postby GPNMilano » Sat Jul 12, 2008 9:22 am

Something just occurred to me as I was working on a solution to not being able to link in an age, to another point in that age (Dang Yeesha and her Bahro Magic!) I decided instead to create a nexus for that age that would hold two linking books. Then it occured to me. Just where is the Nexus and what is outside of it? Its not in the Cavern, or D'ni, that is obvious. As the D'ni couldn't link to another point in the same age, they traveled between areas in D'ni via the Nexus and Ferry's. So just where is the Nexus? Is it just a room floating in space, or is there something outside of the Nexus room itself?

It's alright to mistake it, but it's already been proven that you can link to an Age from WITHIN the same Age (ex. Relto) so that's been disproven...

As far as I know, I "think" Nexus is an enormous machine that either A) sits somewhere in D'ni or B) rests within the Star Fissure... if I'm correct...

I'm not sure though, the Star Fissure one is just a concept, being that Nexus itself might be a different Age...

Not sure again :S

I know you can technically link to an age from within an age. But according to RAWA, IC its canon that only Yeesha and the Bahro had the ability to do this, as well as to write links that did this. The D'ni did not. Hence why they wrote the Nexus as a hub for the links within the city and hoods.

I sort of imagined a giant mechanism that rested in D'ni. If the link was too far away, damage to Ages/the Cavern would prevent movement.

I actually thought that Nexus was either on or near Ae'gura. Would make sense, as all the major links are to the City Minor.

That and private Ages... but it would be cool to have a Nexus Terminal as a Relto Page. Would allow us to free up a slot on our bookshelves :D

Plus, then other people can visit Ages if they so choose.

The Nexus is its own Age. In my mind each "node" is on a spindle comprised of about 2000 nodes, and every time someone Links in it is shifted. But we'll never know for sure, I think. It's, uh, Cyan magic. :P

Nexus isn't in Duck Knee (Earth) as you can't link from Earth to Earth....

Unfortunately, Cyan broke this rule by adding a linking book from the Neighborhood to the GreatZero. Yeesha magic or not, books do not behave that way. But I digress on that point.

Yeah Nexus is its own Age, it has another area that is refered to as the Lattice (tracks KI movements and other such things). whether it is just a single room or many rooms that rotate remains to be seen (I suspect the former). The D'ni would check every now and then to make sure no one had gotten suck in the Nexus (which is why I suspect a single room).

Then how do you make "instances" of Nexus then? O-o

Those instances would have to have instance links to non-instance areas which can also be instances at the same time...

...

DAMN YEESHA MAJICKS ><

I don't understand how that breaks the "rules" anymore then linking from Relto to Relto. That GZ book had the Yeesha symbol didn't it? Though I have no idea where this "rule" of the D'ni being unable to link within the same age came from.

Couldn't the D'ni have more then one book linking back to D'ni in an age? If so they could just take one of those books with them, then use the other, and then they have a book to D'ni in D'ni. In fact, I thought they wrote the books for going back to D'ni in D'ni THEN took them to the ages, otherwise they would end up making a new age similar to D'ni but not the same place.
