Waterset problem

Postby Marcello » Tue Jul 15, 2008 2:38 pm

Hi all,

For my shell I'm adding a waterset for a pool/basin like place. It's pretty much the last thing I have to do before I start adding details to the shell.

The basin has straight walls and a flat floor, so I first tried to use a duplicate of the flat basin floor to make my waveset. Although the centerpoint is set correctly and I´m using the basic settings from the wiki, nothing happens. The plane does get a reflective look, but there are no waves and transparancy. Also it stays flat at the bottom.

So... after reading a few threads I lined up the vertices on one side of the plane with the centerpoint, to solve the bounding box problem. Still no luck. No the plane stays white :(

I'm not sure what to do next. The water is a key element in my shell. I made wavesets before and never had problems :( I'm using 1.4.0 btw.

Any suggestions?

Could you post a screenshot of the wireframe view with your waveset object highlighted? As well, your AlcScript would be nice.

You need waveset under visual.

So, it'd be:

Code: Select all
<Obj>:
    type: waveset
    visual:
        waveset:
              etc, etc
Currently getting some ink on my hands over at the Guild Of Ink-Makers (PyPRP2).

Hi Lontahv,

Yes I've tried that too, but with no luck. That's why I went back to this one, since this works with my pool age. I will try again though.

No, he is using 1.4.0.

Well D'Lanor since I will have to upgrade anyway I will tonight install 1.5.0. Ya never know something magical might happen and it suddenly works. Can you see something fundamentally wrong with my mesh (besides it being dead ugly)?

Just upgraded to 1.5.0 but no change (I did add the visual: line). Well... there is some change... some of my alpha textures are now going crazy. Probably something with z-index.

I have no clue what to do about the waveset. Maybe I'll try a simple age with a new set and see what it does. I prefer not too, since I won't be able to work on my shell this way. But then again.... no clue :( It can't be my card (Radeon X1900) and as I said before I have made working wavesets.

Ok, shoot me... I just made to perfect wavesets in a really simple age. Both working great. One from a curved poolfloor and one from a flat one without having vertices on waterlevel. Both looking cool.

So back to my shell.... :? :(

Ok, I tried several things. I added new geometry to my shell to test wavesets. What happens:

1. The waveset is not lifted to waterlevel
2. The envmap is slow (I tried the refresh setting which still is slow)
3. Waves only move when I move

All this only happens in my shell. When I use wavesets in other ages they work fine.

P.s. calling out for people who managed to make wavesets in Pahts shells. I'm starting to think that somehow there is something that prevents wavesets to render ok in Pahts. I again repeated making waveset outside Pahts and doing exactly the same thing inside Pahts. Same geometry, same script, same settings, etc. Different results.
