Blender and Python on the Mac

Postby Jishin » Thu Jul 24, 2008 10:39 am

OK, so I know I'm going to be hassling you guys quite a bit as I get my stuff set up. Forgive me? ^_^;

Here's the situation: I have both a Mac and a PC. The Mac (sadly, non-Intel) is my primary machine. My PC is on its last legs, so I try only to use it for 3DS Max and playing Uru.

I noted that Blender and Python are available for the Mac. Running Blender on the Mac would alleviate some of the stress on my PC (and to be honest, I like my Mac better anyway ... ), so I'm inclined to try to use it there, and then copy the files over to the PC for final adjustments and testing. Would this be possible? Does PyPRP work on the Mac? What steps of the process require a PC?

Hi,

it's working well for me (but I have Mac Intel ;) ).

The steps I have to do on PC :
- build .pak file
- run ULM
- run URU

See you soon and enjoy your Mac :D

Python is interpreted, thus, PyPRP should work fine unless there are some endianness issues in the writer.

Yep, works fine on my MacBook Pro. The Python dependencies were a bit of a hassle to install - I don't remember what I did exactly, but I may have gotten some from pythonmac.org, some using easy_install, and some compiled from source. 10.5 (Leopard) includes Python 2.5, if you're on 10.4 or earlier you probably need to install that as well (and I don't know if any special action is required to make Blender use it).

If you do find anything that doesn't work on the PPC Mac, please report. Endianness problems should be trivial to fix and I have some PPC Macs around to test.
