Disappearing waveset

Postby Marcello » Wed Jul 23, 2008 12:56 pm

I'm trying to solve the left over problems in my shell before moving on to adding new stuff. One problem is the by now famous waveset and transparancy problem. Now I have something else and I'm not sure it is related.

When moving through the shell, either past the waveset or when swimming in it, it every now and then disappears. If I stop moving it stays away. After a few steps it pops up again.

Is this a know issue with a know solution?

Thnx!

Perhaps is an issue with your graphics card/drivers. Try getting someone else to test it (I could give it a try :D).

Kato, have a look at shell 129 in the released RAD Pahts. It has this issue. I can't imagine it being my card. I have a Radeon X1900XT, which has never had problems with Uru or Mo:ul. Will switch to a Radeon 4870 soon. But still... can't imagine that being the problem.

Let me know what you find :)

There's a release RAD Pahts?! I didn't hear about it. I also combed the Pahts forums and found nothing.

Link to the thread, please?

Oh man you are so behind Kato ;) ;)

It's in the Wiki almost at the bottom:

Why is it there? Why would it even be there? What would compel someone to put it there, on the sign-up-sheet page, and not on the forums at all? Ugh...

Anyway, downloading it now, I'll let you know :)

EDIT: Confirmed, I'm getting the same thing. On both your wavesets. Beautiful shell, by the way! But could we see the settings on your waveset? -K

Uhmm... ask Robert and Aloys ;) (sorry guys)

Here they are:

#************************
# Wavesets
#************************

129BasinWater:
type: waveset
waveset:
envradius: 50
ripplescale: 10
depthrange:
opac:
start: 0
end: 4
wave:
start: 0
end: 1

I have been having a hard time getting the transparancy of the waveset right. Had to bring the mesh way down to get it to be less transparant. No clue how opac effects this now.

Btw the waveset is a flat one! Since it's a basin it would be strange to have one or more vertices at water level. This would influence the transparancy at that specific point which doesn't fit a pool.

It's the same shape as the basin:

And it's placed here:

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but shouldn't it NOT be a flat mesh? Shouldn't it be the shape of the volume of water?
