Nag nag nag nag nag nag.......

Okay, truth be told....because the "Join Objects" has disappeared and I can't find it!

And then I jumped on the quickscript that D'L made. So.....any one want to tell me why it won't let me join objects anymore?

Ctrl + J in object mode after selecting an number of objects. Make sure you either select the animated piece last, or reanimate the joined object from the start.

If you join them with Ctrl-J and it is still laggy, it could well be a physics problem from intersecting triangle meshes. Change the physics from "Triangle Mesh" to "Convex Hull". This should make it very fast, but depending on the overall shape it might have collisions in places you didn't mean. Try to understand Convex Hulls if you want to understand precisely how it may change.
