Have lightmaps changed?

Postby GPNMilano » Mon Aug 04, 2008 10:47 pm

I'm having an issue with my lightmaps. I've followed the tutorial exactly. And even to the point where I deleted all my materials and started anew, and I still keep getting the same issue.

Basically, after making my lightmap (which bakes fine) and setting it to multiply and setting the correct UV texture, everything as far as blender is concerned works properly. In both the materials section the lightmap casts the correct lighting on the original texture, and when I use render and the game engine in blender the lightmap appears like it is supposed to.

Yet when I go into URU, only the lightmap is seen. The texture underneath never appears and all I ever get is the lightmap. Am I doing something wrong, or am I forgetting something? I've done lightmaps before and never had this issue till now.

have you got Textface & Shadeless switched ON in The Materials Tab?
when it comes to Age creation ... "DOH" seems to be my middle name...

Some things to keep in mind:

When baking the light map, you need to have Shadeless OFF and UNSELECT all textures for that material.

Turn them BACK ON after you have applied the new lightmap texture. (IF you had shadeless on before, if not, leave it off), but it sounds like you are not putting the checkmark back in the original texture in the Materials area.

Make sure that your light map texture is UV Mapped to a new UV layer that has a unique name, not the same name as your first UV texture(s).

AFAIK lightmaps have not changed. I've made some since 1.5.0 came out, and it still works just the same for me.

Okay, weirdness. I spent most of last night fooling around with this. Andy, none of your suggestions help (I've made lightmaps before, so I know how to do it, and have never come across this issue before.) After some experimentation, I tried using the 'calcalpha' button.

Open export and linking in, that did the trick. The lightmap shows up beautifully. Because blender takes the lightmap and makes an alpha channel for it with calculating the alpha. WIthout that, the image always appears over the original texture and I just keep getting a solid material of just the lightmap. Confusing.

Yes it is, 'cause I've never had to use CalcAlpha before. And like I said I just made a bunch of light maps for Camp Bravo using the 1.5.0 plugin.

We'll I can't offer anymore help as you've done everything I can think of. Time to ask Nadnerb about it.

I've been hearing of a lot of similar problems lately, but I can't think of anything that's changed. Personally, I can't turn on Shadeless anymore. Maybe I'll try CalcAlpha for that.

Okay, and now I'm having a problem with lightmaps too.

And I've made plenty of them, so it's not that I don't know how.

The textures are NOT mixing. Instead the lightmap UV image is overiding the other texture and UV image. So what is happening is, you see the lightmap for the texture, instead of the texture and the light map blended together as before.

The MapTo is suppose to be set to Multiply for the lightmap (the other texture(s) left to Mix).

Now, I'm not using 1.5.0, I'm using the nightly build. I just reinstalled 1.4.0 and the lightmaps worked just fine. Reinstalled 1.5.0, lightmaps NOT working (and my waveset / shores also failed), Nightly Build, lightmaps still not working (but waveset / shores are).

Anyone?

Edit: I'll try the calcu alpha also, see what happens. If it fixes it, I'll make a note in the tutorial

I knew I wasn't going crazy. Was this an intentional change or an accidental change from something else done in 1.5 though (if it was accidental I'd say keep the note in the tutorial till its fixed.)

For a lightmap, enable to AMB button. That will set the lightmap flags in 1.5+.
