Will someone who visited a shard that has fan-created content and then visits a "normal" shard (e.g. D'mala) cause any problems? Or is that what your new client does?
Yes, we have protections in-place in case a client accidentally goes to the wrong shard (although when it's released I plan to remove non-Volcano shards from the shard list to help avoid confusion).
QUOTE ("ShadowDude") | We don't, however, want to take the risk of it becoming unsafe and possibly messing up another shard's vault. So its recommended required that you create a separate UU install for Volcano, and use that *only* on shards you know have those ages on them. We don't want to be indirectly reasponsible if anyone messes up D'mala
Couldn't have put it better -- just gotta do the whole CYA thing, ya know?
QUOTE ("Robert the Rebuilder") | And how does Volcano provide access to the new ages: a new book in Relto, pedestals placed somewhere, new entries in the Nexus, etc?
Originally we started working on a new age that would serve as a temporary hub point for getting info about and visiting the new ages, but when Myridean got the no-go for hub-variety ages, we instead turned to a book similar to what UruAgeManager does. Granted, I've never gotten my UAM client to load correctly (it was corrupt even before I installed it, so I just used it to download new ages ), but from what I understand it should be relatively similar. The idea behind this may be expanded later, depending on what we come up with and what Cyan allows us to do, but for now that's how it will be for the initial release.

Zrak, How can one get their ages added to your server? That would be my main concern. There are four ages here at Age Builders (two still waiting in the wings for now) and two still being worked on.
Also how would your server handle Ahra Pahts? As new shells are finished more of the City will be opened which means updated files would need to be downloaded.

Currently, ages can be put on the data server by just asking me to do so . However, I realize this is somewhat inefficient, so after the project is released and any initial bugs are worked out, I've been thinking to create an interface of sorts for age developers to upload new versions and patches to the server... However, my main concern there isn't really the uploading or maintaining of the ages, but rather the fact that the server they're on right now (my server) is *really* slow for uploads... For setting up a management system or FTP or anything like that, it'd be easy to do, but I'm hoping we can find a faster server before we release it... Hmm, I seem to recall AgeBuilder hosting UAM data here; you all wouldn't, perchance, be interested in helping with the Volcano Dataserver too would you? XD

i'll volunteer the tomato server (my server) if no others can be found. the specs are: Intel Celeron D 340 2.93GHz Processor Motherboard: Mach Speed Matrix P4M800 Via Socket 478 MicroATX Memory: 512M Ultra PC3200 DDR RAM OS: Ubuntu 5.04 its run here in my house, and my internet plan has (i think) unlimited bandwidth, as long as the bill keeps getting paid. http://tomatoshard.servegame.org:8081(it has to be 8081, port 80 was blocked by my ISP  ) it's not extremely fast, but it hasn't let me down yet. i run my shard on there, so i know it can handle some traffic (yeah, it was never stress tested, but still).
Hmm, I seem to recall AgeBuilder hosting UAM data here; you all wouldn't, perchance, be interested in helping with the Volcano Dataserver too would you? XD Yeah we were (and still are) UAM data. But mind you I have limited bandwidth to give to this project. Only about 100 gb of bandwidth, got to save some bandwidth for my other websites. Now I might be willing to get a server just for the AgeBuilder project and for hosting Zrax's Volcano Project if people would be willing to donate towards the cost for running a server. Running a server can be expensive.

Zrax: One key thing on the agreement that Kedri and J'anim received is that the ages are to be made available on a UU shard server. Does Volcano supply a modified server as well as a client, or only a new (patched) client? EDIT: Removed secondary question that is answered on this thread.
