PyPRP,Python Age Creation

Postby Fezz » Thu Sep 04, 2008 2:11 pm

I am working on Importing a FlatPlane Age in URU ... you know just to go through the steps to see my avatar in relationship to scale etc.

Noobs to Pro did very little to make me feel like a Pro. I completed most of those tutorials, I still feel so noobish. But I can do enough with Blender to at least know the areas I need help with. Thanks to GoW for direction in some great tutorial sites.

Installing PyPRP I was able to feel good about doing. However ...

Let me explain. Loading programs is a leary thing sometimes. I like to know where or why they download to default selection or whatev. Some just load without even giving that me a choice.
I wipe and ghost my hard drive regularly which lately is every few days. URU,Blender,Bryce and so many others, my registry gets a little mangled. I like my registry clean and Selective Startup running as little as is needed.

So looking at http://www.guildofwriters.com/wiki/Installing_PyPRP I have questions if I may.

Reguired Software.

Python 2.5.1 or 2.5.2 ... Hmm the “or” makes me pause. I would use 2.5.2 cause it seems to be the latest rev. Blender like some programs (3DMax etc) might not be backward compatible with certain others. Is that why two are listed for choice?
And where will they download? Will it give me a choice? Do I add it someplace in Blender myself?

I guess I am asking the basic 5Ws who,what,when,where,why.

I am wondering about Python Imaging Library, Python Cryptography Toolkit and PyYAML.

Additional Stuff
Psyco ... okay it speeds up code running times. Thats gotta be a good thing. But code running times is sped up for Blender or URU ? And again where will that go?

Maybe just do the stuff and whatever happens, happens. If I can get some direction on this I will add to GoW wiki if thats okay with everyone. I just dont think the whatever happens attitude, is a good direction really. I mean not from the GoW stand point. Somethings you have no choice.

I like to see the Mysterium thing, dealing with creating Ages. I know it can be done now and am making that attempt. Seeing that video dosent cover what is needed, for me at least.

At any rate, I would like to see tutorials that noobs like me, can make understandable progress with. If items need more effort I will give of my time etc. I am keeping notes on what I as a noob must do and the hoops I have to jump through to create an Age. My hopes are to smooth the process for those that come next. So far no tutorials have accomplished that.

I can program C++,Visual Basic(studio), Java, the core HTML scripts etc. So far I havent been able to get a basic plane Age into URU. I havent done anything with the script portion of Blender yet. Maybe thats were I am missing what is going on. To me I need an application or a word editor to do things and URU items are a bit different from what I can grasp so far from using ULM etc.

Perhaps at some point I can contribute.
I mean look at the efforts Chacal puts into these forums. He understands, his instruction is complete, I always have confidence in what he does etc. A true man of thought and consideration of others. A clear thinking mind I would say. A guy that should be praised for his efforts. This type of individual is why I am at GoW and would like every noob Age maker to have a warm fuzzy feeling when using its items and information.

All of the required software links point directly to downloads for windows intaller files. Just run them all. It's that simple.

The latest version of Python is generally the best way to go.

Python will install itself (by default in C:/Python) and will allow you to run python scripts (.py and .pyw) in any context. Once Python is installed, Blender will automatically detect it on startup.

All the other installers are for Python libraries. They will find your Python installation and add modules to it.

Python Imaging Library - Used to read and write image files for textures during export
Python Cryptography Toolkit - Used to read and write the encrypted game files such as .age and .fni
PyYAML - Used to parse YAML. Alcscript is PyPRP specific data formatted as YAML.

The installation page is kept clean simple so that is easy for new people to just click all the links and have a working install.

Just a note. Use any version of Python 2.x Python 3.x is a complete rewrite of Python and is not compatable with Blender. I am using Python 2.5.1
The Python documentation is very good.

Also look at www.gryllus.net for an excellent set of Blender tutorials.

Thanks Nadnerb,
C:/Python and that Blender automatically detects it at startup is exactly what I needed to know. Also that Library,Toolkit and PyYAML install into the Python file gives me the warm fuzzies for sure.

If this imformation doesnt make its way to the wiki, I will add it in the near future. Its very good information and I thank you for giving me such exacting direction.

Odema, you know I think I saved some pics of that age from along time ago. Next time I am in my external drive I will have to look at it again. Now boxage I think I downloaded that on ULM my last install. You do some good work. Your a busy Age builder.

Godot, wasnt sure what you were saying about Python not being compatable with Blender. I am just going to do it and see what happens so whatever is whaterver. If it doesnt work then I just ghost again.

The http://www.gryllus.net has got to be the best tutorial site for Blender I have seen yet. That and the Blender Manual are just great. I got gryllus.net from Justintime9 yesterday I think. Thanks for sharing it. I will say that Age writing sure does keep an individual busy.
