3DS MAX EXPERIMENT

Postby Metabasalt1 » Sun Sep 07, 2008 7:05 pm

I have been playing around with 3ds max, and think it could greatly improve the look of objects in my age. See my post in the GoMa forum at:
http://www.guildofmaintainers.org/Forum ... ?f=6&t=860
Anybody have any idea why textures are not loaded into blender when I import 3ds max objects? If I get that answered I think I would have the best of both worlds (3ds max and blender)!

That is a limitation of the Blender Max plugin,

You are more than welcome to try and improving that script to port over uv textures, but its not for the faint of heart.

Hey

I always use 3Dsmax to make age's and then import them to blender
The way i do it , you still need to place the textures , but you keep the UVW map on the geomitry

Create
Texture with UVW maps
Convert to editable poly
attach everything and select " match material to material ID "
Export to .3ds
Import in blender
And just apply the textures , the uvw maps are saved so the texture will be placed the same as in 3Ds

Good luck

It could be worth having a look here.

It's a discussion about using Maya but the format mentions a format for 3dMax as an export import option for blender that has provision for textures.
