The "grey scale" image is the alpha blends.....like this:

I see your using PNG, I personally use TGA format, no reason just my personal preference.

In that image does it have an alpha layer in it?

No matter, I reckon you can use that image twice
in the Texture buttons window (F6) you would normally use 1 texture, then a grey scale, then a second texture for stenciling, and use the the grey scale
You can try of course using the same texture as the grey scale stencil but also try and make it a stencil.
It may be enough to trick plasma
