Well, from my reading this, the problem Tobias was having, was about how to select which texture layer to edit, when the layers share a single UV map. It sounds like he got it sorted however; apparently you have to pick the texture to paint upon while in edit mode - texture paint mode won't allow it, at least not in the current version of Blender. This is good to know - my thanks for sharing. :)
