(Trylon started a thread here, but it's up there in admin and you can't reply to it)

YOu can reply to it if you sign up as a GOW representative.

Here is how: viewtopic.php?f=10&t=2481

He (Trylon) suggested an "Inter-Guild" meeting. Not a "Internal Guild" meeting. A meeting of the Guilds, something already suggested by Lynnette from the GoMe via pm's.

And in order for Non-GoW members to reply to Trylon's thread, they'd have to sign up as a GoW Rep....... :?

Oooookay.

It was only the suggestion of a more official inter-guild meeting, hence why I posted it in the reps thread.
It wasn't meant as a starting point for that discussion :)
One day I ran through the cleft for the fiftieth time, and found that uru held no peace for me anymore.

I am going to attempt, attempt mind you, to tread very carefully with this post. So if my Shard Admin sees this, don't hate me. :D

I belong to a shard, that has been at the forefront of the Myst V hacks. It's been part of an ongoing storyline on the shard, a storyline written by a few key people, using all available resources. DRC avatars, Yeesha Avatar, Bahro in the city etc. It's been fun. Myself and a few others were instrumental in putting the necessary stuff from MOUL into POTS to make this possible. It really was a second season of MOUL in many ways. We took all the Myst V content that we could port over, added regions to it, added relto pages, etc. We spread this out over a period of several months so that the story flowed well.

This is what the rest of the community, and Cyan especially needs to get. That Myst V content, it's great. If we can port that into MOUL, finally, we'd have enough content, released slowly onto servers, to last weeks, if not months, while the new content from the fans comes as well.

Also, in that same regard but slightly different.

People want to fix the KI, Fix the Nexus. That's great. Except for one thing. 3DSMax models. You need them to make ANY physical improvements on those things. You can do it with PyPRP, I know. I have. But it takes hours of painstaking trial and error to do so. IF we are allowed to upgrade these things as we see fit, than we need to ask Cyan to release some, not all, but a few of the models from MOUL necessary to make this happen. the KI prps, Nexus Dialog PRP, and a blank Gulid Pub PRP (Sorry, but its not fair that new guild's like the Guild of Ink Makers, or the Guild of Archivers, if they're going to pop up, are not going to have a place in game, where they can have meetings like the others.)

On top of all that we have things like the Client. People want to make changes and adjustments to that, and I'm all for it. What we need to do is go at this from the stand point of "Code is released" We start the shards. The guilds, in cooperation with each other start a centralized server farm, that acts as the "Guild Shard" I see the majority of the MOOSE/OSMOUL joining this shard. This is just when it gets to us.

Then overtime, we start up smaller, internal servers, for testing improvements to the clients, whatever. These servers should not be open to everyone, but just for beta testing coded improvements for the client and server code. These are run by the GoIM (if there will be one)

Other internal servers are set up for fan age testing. These are run by the GoMA/GoW. These are more open in the regard that those who want to test their ages can place them here first.

As time goes by the improvements from these two smaller internal shards are released onto the main "Guild Shard" for the general community.

Whats important though is that no one should be excluded from this. Be it someone whose been here years, or someone whose just joined yesterday, everyone should be allowed, if they choose, to contribute to both internal shards. By contribute I mean the sharing of code and ages.

Thats my two cents.

Just had a quick thought while reading your last post GPN:
(Please keep in mind that I am the definition of "technically challenged" as far as coding/servers goes  )

What about the Guild of Books for maintaining the servers and the Guild of Ink Makers for other technical things (KI, Nexus interface, etc.)?

I agree with you about the Myst V content GPNMilano, but like you said, we do need to get with Cyan about that. Those Ages were never part of MOUL. Doesn't mean we (the fans) can't make it a part of the story, on what ever shard, shards, or MOOSE (sorry! But Bob's suggestion has stuck in my mind: Myst Online Open SourcE, I just can't let it go!).
But yah, we'll need to ask about that content.

I've loaded up several of the Ages, pubs, Nexus, etc, and added physical things just fine in a seperate prp file. The HARD part was importing the Age into Blender so I had a reference to go by (IE WHERE to put the books, or new wall, etc, etc).

In a strictly IC sense, the Guild of Ink Makers made the ink for linking books. The Guild of Book Makers made, duh the books. While the Guild of Writers crafted the ages.

in an OOC sense, I say we should take a que from how the D'ni did it. Guild of Ink Makers in that regards are the developers. They create code the tools necessary for age creation and exploration. In this case code the client, develop PyPRP (Cause I doubt many will want to shell out the thousands of dollars for 3DSMax in order to use the Cyan Plugin, but some will) fine tune the server code. Etc. If the guilds are going to be at the forefront I see it as this:

Guild of Ink Makers - Developers whose function is to code the client, servers, and tools. They can also lend a hand to the GoW for coding an "game changing" areas, GUI's etc.

Guild of Writers - The developers of fan ages, and those who retool the KI and Nexus. (Adjustments to any Cyan content needs to be done by people who are capable of creating ages, and are familiar enough with the tools so that it looks like it is part of D'ni, and not an explorer creation. There are a lot of talented writers out there, and they are the best capable at reworking stuff like this.

Guild of Archivers - Keep a strict adherence to the canon so that nothing gets screwed up. This way everything in an IC sense, of D'ni history, and fan created story content doesn't get twisted up and messed into gobbilty gook.

Guild of Maintainers - Test both updates to the client, server code, as well as fan ages before anything is released. This way nothing will break the server etc. They are the last line of defense before something is released that could cause any sort of harm.

Guild of Messangers - Spread news throughout the community. Of fan ages, events, developments of Uru, and news from Cyan.

Guild of Cartographers - Map the ages, both Cyan and Fan ages.

Guild of Greeters - Welcome new explorers and get them accustomed to Uru, give hints of puzzles etc.

The trail had grown dim and darkness had been surrounding me for what seemed like months but suddenly up ahead a new deep orangish light started to glow far off in the distance on the horizon. It was the light of a new day as I had not realized I had been walking all night. The night had been very dark because not even the moon shown or stars for that matter. It had been a new moon and a slightly cloudy sky.

As I continued to hike along the trail I saw more and more of my latest surroundings and felt that I could now turn my flashlight off. As the images grew lighter upon my retinas I discerned a whole new place where I had never been before. Somehow I had gotten off my planned trail and had gotten on this new one.

As I continued following the trail I came to see what looked like some civilization ahead. It was merely a small cottage but at last - civilization again dawns! I strode slowly up to the door and as I looked all around I beheld a beautiful garden wherein were beautiful flowers of all kinds and colorful vegetables growing as well.

Upon reaching the door I knocked and then..........

[This is an allegory describing coming upon this great news presented to us of late. Hooray for our side!]
Out of the dark we came, into the dark we go. Like a storm-driven bird at night we fly out of the Nowhere; for a moment our wings are seen in the light of the fire, and, lo! we are gone again into the Nowhere.
