There is a tutorial for SL'ers that shows manipulating the UVMap mesh itself. Because of a quirk in SL one often needs to do tweaks to the UVMap. So, they show how to do things with the UV that few others show. Knowing how to work with the UVMap mesh can come in handy. I had not realized the UVMap mesh was editable. Another Duh moment for me.

Ignore their references to SCULPTIES. Just think of them as a 'special mesh' for use in SL. They are just a mesh that is a specific vertices count surface to allow the baking of the image one imports to SL. Other than that they are just like any other surface or object one would make and texture.

They have an tutorial on using the Node Editor. First one of those I've seen. They use it to bake a texture. I think it is in the Nurbs tutorial. I forget.

A video tutorial is here: http://blog.machinimatrix.org/2008/05/12/blender-surface-textures/#more-12
A more complex one: http://blog.machinimatrix.org/2008/09/01/texturizing-with-multiple-images/

Instead of starting a new thread I'd thought I ask for help on this one because it's a texture question. I was experimenting with the paint texture tool in blender. Instead of using a color from the paint palette I brought in an image and I painted over the textured object while in 3D view. Basically I was trying to get this distressed look. It showed beautifully in blender, however when I bring it into Ahra Pahts the painting I had done did not show. :? I looked on wiki and didn't see anything regarding this particularly problem.

there are two things I can think of that may cause this (non) event ...

1) did you SAVE the texture after you had brushed it .. ? (if not, then Uru is still using the original texture because, as far as the plugin knows, the texture hasn't been changed).

2) Even if you DID save the "new" brushed texture ... have you already exported the Age with the (old, unbrushed) texture at least once before (before distressing) ... because if you have, then the plugin will be reading the tetxure from the tex_cache folder ... so you need to delete it from there BEFORE re-exporting the version with the brushing)
when it comes to Age creation ... "DOH" seems to be my middle name...

When you use Texture Paint to paint a colour onto an object, you have to bake the texture for the painting to show up in Uru. A tutorial is here: http://www.scifi-meshes.com/forums/dojo ... aking.html

look about halfway down the page for 'Texture Baking'

No I didn't save the texture before exporting. I went in and save the texture, but I couldn't find where to bake it. I read the instructions but couldn't find the texture bake under the UV/Editor. I'm still learning Blender and I haven't thought about baking anything. I assumed it was what you used when everything is perfect... which I am no where near yet.I tried Bake-textures under the Bake tab on the buttons window and that was a really bad idea, the texture went completely black. Also I keep all my textures on my desktop (just easier to find) and I didn't find the original texture in the tex-cache folder or in the CC folder.. just the new one I created.

I dont think you need to bake .... thats for something else ... if you're just painting the texture ... just make sure to save it once you have painted it ...then delete the "old" one from the text_cache

(baking is for something much more complex)

I really need to clean up my project folder. I found the old texture file and it exported to Pahts perfectly! Thanx! :D

post deleted - I am gradually finding out some answers. Biggest problem is with UV Unwrap, knowing what the settings are for.
Experiment, experiment...
