Completely neutral here and no, I have no desires yet to become a representative until there is compelling reason to be one (too frightened to get rejected anyway) ;)

But... do I understand correctly that one of the nominees decides who ultimately gets to vote on the nominees? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm................. unless the "I" in "when I review applications" does not mean what it appears to mean :D

Adam wears two hats: guild councillor and forum admin.
Although you are right to be concerned, in that case he applies rules that are stated here:
viewtopic.php?f=47&t=2481

Short version being, representatives are all people who contribute here and are willing to become a member, as opposed to someone who enrolls just for one vote that he has a stake in. Regulars vs one-timers, if you will.

Now that you mention it, it does sound weird that a council member should approve representatives. It should be done by an admin who is not in the council.

Why does that sound weird? That is a responsibility that falls upon all of the Councilors. Adam and I both approve Representatives, and the new Councilor will too.

Remember the councilors are representatives too, and can be replaced easily by a rep vote. So if there is thoughts that shenanigans are taking place, there is checks and balances.

Also don't forget there is ways for people to be able to vote on an issue and not be a permanent representative. YOU can apply to one of the councilors for a temporary rep status on something you think is important.

We'll wait and see.

On another note:
I wrote the list of conditions into the structure proposal for the two reasons that Chacal stated here:

Chacal wrote:Short version being, representatives are all people who contribute here and are willing to become a member, as opposed to someone who enrolls just for one vote that he has a stake in. Regulars vs one-timers, if you will.

I think the councilors fit the job of picking who is qualified to be a rep. Hey, it's not like they can boot people out of being reps on anything other than hard facts. I would think it'd be odd to have a non-political member approve people. Just because you're a politically neutral admin doesn't mean you're fair. Admins might reject people for stupid reasons (feuds, etc.). At least we can boot the councilors. We can't boot a rotten admin with the reps.

You have a point there.
Not that I really mind of course, but it's always better to point out possible problems before they happen.

On the other hand, it might be that a person feels more compelled to post more frequently on the main forums if there were something he/she felt worth their time to post about i.e. something on a different section of the forums.
