Is TPOTS required?

Is TPOTS required?

Postby jdr » Mon Feb 02, 2009 9:02 pm

Quick question - have just gone throught the "Very First Age" tutorial and all seemed to go okay. However, I no longer have TPOTS on my current machine, and Uru-To D'Ni gives an error message: "The following pages have newer version numbers than this client and cannot be loaded...".

Is TPOTS absolutely necessary, or is there a way to "fix" the version number discrepancy? I'm using XP Home with Blender 2.48a. Thanks.

PyPRP allows you to compile your age with the Prime, UU, To D'ni version number. In your Blender scripts folder you have to edit the prp_Config.py file with a text editor. Change the line game_version = "tpots" to game_version = "uu".

Keep in mind though that most tools are expecting TPOTS so you may run into a snag elsewhere.

Thanks for the quick reply. The good news is that your fix stops the "version number" error message, and everything goes through without interruption.
The bad news is that no book appears in my Relto. Have tried numerous times. How are "books" created? I'm assuming it is all automatic.

Unless I'm missing something obvious, I guess I'll just have to invest in a new TPOTS... was hoping to at least check that the connection between Blender and Uru was possible first.

Thanks again.

That is one of those snags I mentioned I am afraid. Books are added by the ULM which only works with TPOTS. The same goes for the other tools Drizzle and the Offline KI.

Does To D'ni have enough to make the KI interface working together with the Offline KI? If yes, he could be able to use the Offline KI /link command. I really don't know though.
I prefer e-mails to "diafero arcor de" (after adding the at and the dot) over PMs.

It might be worth a try. But make a backup in case it messes up the To D'ni installation.

Thanks for all the help. I've gone ahead and ordered a copy of CC from ebay. Hopefully that will get things working, and I might as well replay it just for fun... I'm sure I've forgotten most of the puzzles by now.

Extra:

Just got my copy of TPOTS and now have a book in my Relto with what must be one of the simplest ages in Myst history! Time to start adding textures and objects! Don't know what that game_version = "uu" parameter is supposed to do; seems like TPOTS is a pre-requisite.
