[ Showcase ] GoW - Age

If you feel like you're up to the challenge of building your own Ages in Blender or 3ds Max, this is the place for you!

[ Showcase ] GoW - Age

Postby Oneironaut » Wed Feb 11, 2009 1:16 pm

Shorah,

I'm working on an Age for our Guild. In order for the ongoing Open Source URU I'd like to create a representative Age for the GoW.
The model was created in 3dsmax (I hope the plugins are coming soon) and the Texture in Photoshop. It's not Final yet...
330 Tris and a 512 Texture.

this is LOVELY work ... I look forward to more (MORE ... ... ooopss.... sorry .... ).

You could export the model from 3D max as a Maya object (.obj) ... and then import it into Blender (the UV mapping would also be exported/imported) ... and then actually get it into an Age within Uru (using the current GoW plugin & Blender).

There is no need to (in fact I would highly recommend you DON'T) wait for Cyan, MOOSE or the Max plugin ... which, if past record is anything to go by, will not be in the immediate future (even though they are "hoping" to have "something" ready for "spring". )

What I really like about it is that you have used both a reasonable face-count and a reasonable texture size (although, I suspect that, depending on the (in game physical) size and how close you will actually get to this pedestal (in game), you may find that you MIGHT be able to reduce the texture size to 256 x 256 ... but you'd have to see it in game to be sure.

... well done !

(As for "a representative Age for the GoW" ... well, now that is a seperate subject altogether ... you might find some people will have strong views on something like that  )
when it comes to Age creation ... "DOH" seems to be my middle name...

Good luck getting anyone here to agree to your ideas. :)

BTW, I agree with Bob and what you have there is awesome. ;)

Thanks boblishman and BAD for the feedback!

@boblishman: I've installed Blender. Soon, I must find a way to get along with this prog, and the Plugins.
But for now, creating makes much more Fun. Maybe I find here someone for a Coop.

@BAD: I'm not Talking around for something to do, I'll create it. Maybe, this will convince the most :D

I've just finished the next Model:
1320 Tris (602Poly)and 2x 512 Texture

I will pm you.

(I get a good feeling about your work and would be interested in the possibility of us working together (also, we are both in the same timezone, which helps!).

If you haven't already, check out my Age "Sonavio" (which you can get on Drizzle or the ULM).
It will give you some idea of my level of knowledge of blender and the current plugin.

Great work!
I suggest adding more painted-on shadows and highlights, like Cyan does, to accentuate the 3D feel.

I'll "bake" the Material with Ambient Occlusion once the Scene ist settled.
This makes it a bit more realistic.
Btw: This Feedback is really usefull, much more better than a Oneliner. More please.... (Ups ^^)

What do you mean with that? Has this anything to do with the Suggestion from Chacal? (An Insider?)
