Detailed Age WritiNg Contest (DAWN)

General debates and discussion about the Guild of Writers and Age creation

Bob, thats for people who have downloaded the offline ki. The offline KI allows for linking panels to be shown in the Nexus and bookshelf for fan created ages, if a panel exists in the img folder. (if you download the offline ki, all fan ages can be accessed via the nexus, and the shelf, and they all have linking panels) In order to make the age as user friendly as possible, I included the Linking panel image, so that if someone with an offline ki just installs the age, they'll automatically get the linking panel, rather than having to redownload the offline ki again.

ahh... Thanks for explaining that ... :)

(I have never used the offline Ki - and I guess a few other people may have been confused too...)
when it comes to Age creation ... "DOH" seems to be my middle name...

Yeah, if you don't use the offline ki you can safely delete the image and the folder. It's only necessary for the offline ki. There's a couple of extra folders that come with the offline ki. The img folder for linking panels, and another folder to import pictures into Uru to store on imagers and such.

EDIT: I managed to fix some of the lag problems. it still lags a little but not nearly as bad as it used to. I haven't uploaded it though, as it's not an age breaking problem. It was indeed the animation for the tram carriage. I extended the animation so that it swayed much slower, and this fixed some of the lag. Also the telescope problem is only in third person, not sure why it is. I'm gonna take a look at how Cyan made their telescope in Bevin, and see what I'm missing there. When its in first person it cuts back to the avatar, but its a bit slow to do so, where as third person it just pans back to it.

The latest downloadable version fixes most of the issues for me, except for (which has already been reported) the lag and the telescope in Eder Licinius and the keyboard in the office. The Bahro screams work, but they are *very* loud.

However, I've got two additional issues which have not yet been mentioned:
- In Eder Licinius, when I enter the water, swim through it to the other end and then back, I get sand footsteps sounds long before I leave the water (I even get them while swimming, which sounds funny :D ) . It depends on the direction from which I enter the area in the water which is close to the entrance: When I come from the land, I get water sound, when I come from the lake, I get sand sound.
- In the office, there are KI coordinates - but they jump around like crazy while I look at them. The first one (the angle) constantly goes up (swapping back to 0 when the maximum of about 65000 is reached), the distance also goes up and jumps back to zero when it reached about 920, the height goes down, jumping back to 900 when it reached 0. The "jumping" of the three coordinates seems to be independent from each other.

On another note, do you want me to make the office appear in the Offline KI Nexus, or should it only be available through Eder Licinius (I would usually expect the 2nd one)? Which name should the office have in the KI? Since it obviously is supposed to be in Ae'gura, I would suggest "D'ni-Ae'gura", which is what Sharper's Office, the Spryoom and the city show.
I prefer e-mails to "diafero arcor de" (after adding the at and the dot) over PMs.

Heh, Diafero, read the Journal in the office. The KI coordinates are supposed to do that. (Its one of the three settings in Plasma for the MaintainersMarkerModifier. Broken, Repaired and Calibrated. As for the footstep sounds, not sure why you'd get that but I'll add it to the list.

D'ni-Ae'gura is the name for the city itself, which the office isn't in (its in a new neighborhood, Dorehn.

 soory, I obviously read over the journal too quickly. I guess that is the "Broken" state then? What does it look like with "Repaired"? For "Calibrated" I guess it works the way it does in the city, the hood and so on.

Ok, so I will call it "Dorehn" in the KI and not let it appear in the Nexus (I guess it will get a Nexus registration link at some point).

Yeah, its going to be a bit like Baron City Office. A link to the office won't appear in the Nexus, but once the hood is released itself, the hood's link will appear in the Nexus.

I forgot what Repaired looks like, I think it causes it to stay at 0, and calibrated as you noted is the effect you get in the city and other areas.

OK, first off, sorry for the delay.

Second, we still have some judging issues to work out. I don't have time to post a lot at the moment, so I'll just run the basic issue now:
The initial proposal for this contest proposed that all contestants also be judges. Now since we have only two contestants left, that seems a bit unfair, so I'd propose that contestants who dropped off be judges as well.
Everyone ok with that?

Any thoughts?

I do want to finish this off correctly... right now I feel as if it's just hanging around being slowly forgotten.....
