Age Exports Fine, Crashes Uru

Postby Race » Mon Mar 23, 2009 4:04 pm

I am having a strange problem here, I exported the age as usual and went to test it, the purple loading bars both complete and then the game just crashes to the desktop, I decided to undo a 2D transparent image plane I added, then re exported, this time I could get into the age. I made a new tree image plane and again the age crashed. Why would this object be causing the whole game to crash? Again, no export errors occur and there is nothing in the elf logs to suggest a major problem of any kind. Could my age just be getting too big for itself and would it help if I put these things into a separate Prp file? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks -Race

do you have Shadbuf turned OFF on ALL your materials ? (that's what first springs to mind)
when it comes to Age creation ... "DOH" seems to be my middle name...

It could also be the whole namechange/sequence prefix issue again. You could try exporting as another name and another sequence prefix, just to test if that's it.

I am having the same problem as Race. I just started adding linking books to the Yaeviev Nexus and Uru started crashing on me when loading that age. I made sure shadbuff is turned off. I have also went in and exported it again under a new name and sequenceprefix. Neither solution worked.

I believe what Dustin meant, was that there may be old files left in the dat directory. E.g. You export an age named "Alpha", with sequence prefix "1". Later you decide to rename it "Bravo" and export it under that name, without getting rid of all the old Alpha age files. Now there are two ages, Alpha and Bravo, with the same sequence prefix, which is a bad thing, so check for obsolete files in your dat directory. :7

If you happen to have any animated objects check if their "Actor" property is set. That is always my number one instant crash check.

Jojon, I changed both name and sequenceprefix. Gave it a number I know that is not assigned to any age whether it is Cyan, Mine, or another Fan Age. So there shouldn't have been any conflicts.

D'Lanor, the Yaeviev Nexus has no Animations whatsoever, I haven't even implemented linking panels to the books yet.

The problem occurred again today, I duplicated a palm tree and moved it to a different island and crash. I went back in, separated all the materials, renamed it instead of the object being Palm Tree.004 or something and the age loaded fine. Maybe blender doesnt like multiples of the same object sharing similar textures and name extensions.

Or spaces in names maybe. I always use names like PalmTree04 etc. Uru uses that kind of naming so I figured it would be safe. ;)
