Blender cleans up lose nodes itself.
Currently getting some ink on my hands over at the Guild Of Ink-Makers (PyPRP2).

Yes, I noticed that Blender does it.
For example: If I delete an object that has its own material and afterthat save and quit Blender, the material is deleted too after restart of the program.

The only time blender won't clean up a loose node itself is if you tell it to. Next to the names of the materials, textures, sounds, ipo curves etc there is a button that when pressed asks you if you wish to save that data even if it has no users. Choosing yes will create an empty link node so that Blender will not delete that node. Once unpressed though it will return to its default setting of deleting it.

Sorry if this seems a bit bothersome, but I'm wondering how the age is coming along Jonnee? I would just like to keep this topic from being buried because Breldur looks like a really promising age.

Hi Daniel!

I'm still working on that age, but don't spend alot of time on it now. Private commitments draw off my attention.

Just have a look to the new screenshots. 8-)
