Videocard problem?

Postby Marcello » Sun May 31, 2009 6:27 am

I have a strange problem. Every time I play UrU TPOTS (with many added ages) I get artifacts in the Nexus and the fan of my graphics card starts spinning like crazy. In most ages I get stretched geometry and after a while artifacts and even sometimes bluescreens.

The strange thing is... it only happens in UrU. No problems whatsoever when playing Tomb Raider Anniversary. The fan doesn't even accelerate.

I have had this problem for a few months now. Cleaning the inside of my pc and all fans didn't help. Either something is broke (I have a Radeon X1900XT) or somehow UrU messes something up.

Any ideas?

Thnx

I've never had any such problems (or heard of them), but what you describe sounds plausible. Some specific behavior of Uru could trigger a bug in the graphics driver that causes the graphics card to run at full steam and overheat, which in turn causes the artifacts and crashes.

I'd look into up- or downgrading your drivers.

That would be downgrading then :( I tried to find new ones today, but seems like mine are the last release for this card.

Thnx Christian

Edit: looks like ATI has a legacy card program. Just found a new one.

Did you try creating a new avatar? I heard of strange things happening when the avatar vault starts breaking...

Ok... might be time or a new video card. New driver didn't help nor did a new avie. Now noticed artifacts in Tomb Raider too. :(

Edit: temperatures are skyhigh so I don't think power is the problem. Guess the fan is broke or something :(
