Introduce Yourself

General debates and discussion about the Guild of Writers and Age creation

Shorah everyone, I'm Sifr.

Been playing Myst since way back in the when and have been playing Uru since the UU days (good, good times, eh?). Did some of the beta-ing for the Gametap version of Live, (yes... I was one of those people who was there obsessively trying to find the book into and then solve Eder Delin when it first appeared), but couldn't afford the subscription when it finally went Live, much to my regret.

Always been impressed by those who could write Fan Ages and wished to have a go myself... so after a bit of lurking, decided to give it a bash and introduce myself.

Currently am messing around with my first age, in between drinking copious amounts of tea... and trying not to kill Blender for refusing to give my so far workable age a Sky

ahoy, I'm Colton, and I hope to bring some nice ideas to the community. I'm slowly developing as a 3d modelist.. I'm not good enough to try to publicly release anything yet, imo.

I'm Dreshanda...though, I prefer to be called Anne or Annie, since those are both a few nicknames I have :) I've been into the Myst games since...well, I'm only fourteen, so not that long ago! I've played them all at least twice, though, and enjoyed every bit of them :) I found out about Uru Live when I was reading the back of the Uru manual one day, and I felt like seeing if it really was live. When I joined, though, I was really too shy to do anything. Eventually, I became a bit known around the older folks as a nice little "pet". Soon enough, I was hanging around everyone, and showing people how to go through some of the Ages! I wasn't on for a long time, and when I found out that Uru Live had died, I cried :( But, I stopped crying when I realized that I still have my (crappy) job and I can still get money! :D
Now, though, I found out that they are apparently letting the people take control. Which I don't mind one little bit! :) I must admit, I was a little scared at first, thinking about all of the different ways it would be set up, wondering how I would deal with it all. I just decided I might as well sit back for a while and let it all fly by me :) Maybe I'll throw in a hint of advice here, or doodle out something for someone. :) I am no good with computer programs, but I'm sure that someone else can bring my ideas for life for me :)

Introduce yourself? OK then.

I am animoose. I've just finished playing the entire Myst series from start to finish, ending up with Uru:CC. In the past, I've had a lot of fun with games like Submachine and brain teasers like The Roomz and PuzzleFiles. I love the Myst and Uru series for their balance between puzzle, back story and the joy of exploring beautiful worlds. It wonderful to land in a new age with simply no idea of what the goals are and where to go and gradually find and understanding of what's going on emerging.

I plan to try out some of the fan ages and maybe to try my hand at writing one. If the great Uru Open Source project goes ahead, maybe I can contribute there, as I am an experienced software engineer in real life. Well, we'll have to wait and see what happens there.

Now I have a question for you, gentle members of the forum. Of the many fan ages, which would you recommend to try first?

As a response to the direct question submitted by animoose.

Get drizzle loaded in there, load all of the ages if you can and work through the restoration ages in your Nexus. Get at least to double figures before you decide for yourself. Then dive in and build yourself an age and don't worry if you think it looks rubbish. I believe most of us went through that phase. Some claim not but self delusion is rife.

If you only want to consider the good ones you will spoil yourself and not join the writing community you need to see some of the rubbish so you can entertain the thought "I can do better than that" There's loads of help on the wiki and you will quite often get a satisfactory response from a direct question.

Hello I'm Griffinps3! I have no experience with blender and am trying to teach myself. I am also a pretty good concept artist and have some great ideas for puzzles and storyboards. Right now I am working on a age called core. For more information go to www.theuruprojects.weebly.com .

Linger:
Basement dwelling, cold blooded mammal (when I can manage to escape the clutches of purposeful existance).

About me:
I'm a Fine Arts student from Melbourne (Australia), straight, legal, single and I want to help you with your age creation. I'm here as an artist for all of you writers, if you need any help visualizing anything in one or many of your age frontiers then definately give my chain a jingle.
My Email is peter+[dot]+1000+[at]+gmail+[dot]+com.

What I can offer my fellow member:
My skil set is wide but I aim at conceptual art, and thinking, a lot. If you would like either of those skills to boost your age then I'm your man (strictly not in a relationship sense).

Examples? Sure:
My Online Portfolio can be found Here.
As I am a student my skill is W.I.P. but on the contrary: I will certainly get any jobs done that I say I will.
Looking to move your age from the Story stage into the Concept Art stage?
Rich developmental concept art for your age, for the price of a place in your credits.

Postby ZURI » Fri Nov 20, 2009 8:36 pm

Hello everyone! I'm Zuri, and am a big fan of the Myst franchise. About 10 years ago, I came across Myst Masterpiece Edition and have been hooked ever since. Unfortunately, when URU was online, I didn't have an internet connection and missed out on all the fun :( . However, a while ago I decided to the Book of Atrus again and figured I'd find out if anything in the URU universe was new. Needless to say, I am pleasantly surprised.

I used to build maps for Quake 3, so I have some experience with 3D modeling and scripting. Getting used to Blender has been a trying experience, but slowly it's all sinking in (Kerath help me!). The difference between Quake 3's builder program and Blender is akin to comparing Paint with Photoshop! Wow, a lot has changed over the years! With some persistence and a lot of work and studying, I hope to make some contributions to the Open Source URU community.

I have some ideas for URU ages, but they are mostly on paper at the moment. I think the biggest obstacle for me to overcome will be getting used to Blender and it's nuances. Wish me luck!

Welcome to the GoW ZURI! I'm sure you'll warm up to blender soon enough (I'd recommend the Blender: Noob to pro tutorials for beginnings). When I first started using blender when the Guild pubs were released in MOUL, I barely knew what a 3D Modeling program was, let alone how to use it. Now I've released an age and have 3 more in the works. So good luck and can't wait to see your work :)
