RAWA is our new community manager

General debates and discussion about the Guild of Writers and Age creation

I think Crisger said it right there...

For alot of you at the GoW:

When I look at this 'Guild', all I see are two large factions fighting over nothing. Alot like Far Cry 2. The UFLL and APR (or in our case Hoikas and his gang against everyone who thinks differntly, respectivley) fighting simply to fight. Did Jamey not create this forum post just to say how RAWA had become the new community manager and that he was excited? And yet you bring this giant wrecking ball and start a warzone... Heheh... Kind of like FC2... So what is the point? Can we not just drop it before it's constant and endless warfare? Now if we look at the deffinition of troll... The people who offended Jamey's intial post are the Trolls. So... Stop fighting. Constant Warfare is pointless... This is not 1984...

FREEDOM IS SLAVERY

WAR IS PEACE

TWO AND TWO MAKE FIVE
- 1984 - George Orwell

Valdez :geek:
Fighting, Horrible disposition to others based on beliefs... What's the point anymore? Was there ever a point? Dead is what it is and always will be until peace is achieved through everyone.

Wow. And I thought I had seen it all with selective reading when Justin posted a few pages back trying to refute CrisGer' s ebing a troll... If you go back and reread the thread as I just did, CrisGer was the very fist to post inflammatory messages.

Now, I'm going to be the really bad guy and tell you that I have no "gang." I say what I want to, when I want to. I do not care what anyone else thinks. If you think you are in bondage or are slaves somehow to me or the Guild of Writers, I encourage you to leave immediately. Start your own forum where you don't have to worry about oppressive moderation and can create whatever you like in whatever manner you please.

If I was still a mod, I would have locked the thread two pages ago, and gave warnings to everyone who flamed. Including myself <_<.

Valdez, although this thread has since devolved, those criticisms of Cyan's past community management efforts (as detailed by Paradox, Dustin, and Hoikas) are all valid.

There hasn't been any actual discussion here about those communication problems, however. Nor has anyone discussed how negotiation between the Guild of Writers and Cyan should now proceed.

This is disappointing.

That boat sailed months ago I'm afraid. The only person who could mend that connection is RAWA. He will be to busy dealing with the community at large. This ruckus here is nothing compared to the insanity that goes on at the MOUL forums. I would be shocked if he even ever posts here.

All that having been said, I have to admit it is a little sad that a post started with bubbling enthusiasm such as:
Jamey wrote:Personally, I'm very excited by this news! :D I wish RAWA the best of luck!

makes us react as a bunch of grumpy old men (myself included). It must be discouraging for young folk who still are sharing the dream.

Will any mention of Cyan in the future makes us get our panties in a bunch?
Or should we just continue doing what we're good at, and if something good comes out of this, so much the better?

This forum may not be a battle ground but this thread has seen a skirmish.

We have Optimists and Pessimists both looking at the same glass and having a free and open discussion that is not the skirmish.

There are two other factions The Cynics and The Sycophants.

Both of these groups have a militant sub group. Now I class myself as a passive cynic. In that respect I doubt RAWA will produce the goods but I am prepared to be surprised. There are some passive sycophants they don't like things said against Cyan but are prepared to accept that there others who are ambivalent. They usually avoid sites where they think they might be upset.

There are however the active sycophants who would like nothing better than a world without anybody but Cyan. Unfortunately for this forum occasionally we get visits from the active sycophants. Its also unfortunate that instead of treating these posts as delusional some of the cynics regard these as open attacks.

Now much as I find the posts of sycophants vomit inducing I find that poking the stick at them just does not work. They appear to be best left to their delusions even if their rantings appear trollish.

Sometimes I feel I would like to remove them and their postings but I have to temper my feelings and use my cynical head that says these people will only cry foul and make new accounts and come back and make more trouble.

I find my best method is to read their posts and regard them as feeble minded morons who have failed to realise that Uru is a work of fiction, That the guys at Cyan are only human RAWA and Rand included and that the occasional pointy stick in Cyan's direction might just stimulate a bit of action.

Cyan have produced a fine body of work and they do have intellectual property rights when it comes to the Myst Universe there's no doubting that.

With any work of fiction there is room to jump off in new directions with greater or lesser links to the original work. These offshoots mean no disrespect to the original work if you think it does show even a modicum of disrespect then you better look away because it's going to happen.

This is a space used by creative people using the Myst universe as a springboard and to that end we need to discuss Myst, Uru, D'ni et all as fiction, we need to discuss ages as manipulated environments, and Cyan as a source of cannon information.

This means we must treat RAWA with respect if we don't he is just not going to play. So think of the pointy stick as an attention getter not a lance. ;)

I love this thread!
It's so much better than television. It's kept me entertained for two days now :D

Quick question Tweek:
Would that be "Benevolent Father", or "Rand the Merciless"?

Above question was meant in jest, and stated purely for the purpose of humourous entrtainment. It does not reflect the opinion I have of Cyan. If you do not get the reference, that's your loss. Reader thas the freedom to - at their discretion - toatally ignore this message and rant away about above post, as this will probably keep me entertained for days to come.

(Hmm, can't decide if this statement is trolling, sarcasm, or humour... Better go for "both")
One day I ran through the cleft for the fiftieth time, and found that uru held no peace for me anymore.

Indeed, it was not my intention at all to have this topic turn into a war-zone. :(

Personally, I just feel that if we all were more optimistic and respectful towards Uru Live, RAWA, & the rest of Cyan Worlds, huge fights like this wouldn't be an issue. I'm not trying to insult anyone or make accusations, I'm just trying to remain positive in hard times like these. I'm not trying to make ANY enemies on here.

What have we learned on the show today, Craig?

Be Optimistic, not delusional. Don't treat hopes and dreams as the current reality and don't try to force others to view it as such.

Be Critical, avoid pessimism. Filter past reality with what can happen in the current reality and allow others to have their tempered expectations.

It's also possible that one person's dream is another person's nightmare. (open source URU)

Me, I'm a passive cynic like J'Kla. Watch history repeat itself enough times...

Ok, maybe I'm also a hypocrite. ;)
