I need to clean up my blend file

Postby I.Brattin » Tue Jan 12, 2010 3:03 pm

I have been working on Chamassa the last few days. I have went in and deleted models, and deleted more models. The original blend file looks clean except for what I want to keep. In reality its not clean. When I decided to redo the islands I decided I would start with a fresh blend file and import the buildings that are being imported back into the age.

So I painstakingly removed all but those models and saved them each as their own blend file. For example there is Chamassa_Windmill, Chamassa_Library, etc. I then started a new blend file and start importing. All the buildings imported fine, but so did everything I thought I had deleted.

So I thought I will see if the materials were causing the models to reappear instead of disappear so I brought up each model and clicked the X on the materials to unlink them and then deleted the models. Then I tried starting over again and tried importing the buildings again, and again everything I deleted imported.

How do I clean up the blend file? It's currently sitting at 100 meg.

I've had exactly the same problem. If anyone knows the solution, I'd like to hear it too...

Each time to save, close, and reopen the file, Blender deletes all datablocks with 0 users.

So you have Object -> Mesh -> Material -> Texture -> Image. You delete the object, save, close, and reopen.
Now you have Mesh -> Material -> Texture -> Image. Save, close, reopen.
Material -> Texture -> Image. Save, close, reopen.

Eventually when the Texture block is removed, the Image will have no users and be marked for deletion.

No offense Paradox, but I'm kinda stumped.

I delete the object, save, exit, open blender, reload and then supposed to delete the mesh. Except I don't see the mesh when I reopen the blend file. Yet I know its still there as should I import the blend into a new age's blend file it imports all the objects I just deleted.

I figured out my problem. All the stuff I had deleted in the past somehow just got transposed to a new scene. I had a total of 44 scenes. Once I deleted the other 43 scenes, saved, closed, reopened the blend was down to 23 meg.

Shoggoth, check your scenes that maybe where the extra stuff was that you thought you had deleted.
