Maybe Cyan found a publisher for MOUL on iPhone, hence money for the MOUL servers.

To me that would be the OS announcement. That was very exciting. At the time.

True, but to me that was a bit disappointing, because it pretty much meant Cyan is giving up on URU and throwing the leftovers to the fans. And as far as the MORE announcement prior to that, it still wasn't as exciting because it promised something that would be coming in an indefinite amount of time.

These posts from the DRC however show true potential of something huge ACTUALLY happening (rather than just a proposal for something in the future.)

There is so much that needs to be overhauled in Uru. The fans have the time and staffing to make those changes. Cyan does not, and did not even when MOUL was at its height. Open sourcing Uru isn't so much throwing leftovers to fans so much as taking Uru in what is now practically the only direction in which it can succeed. If the recent developments or whatever Cyan is doing causes them to back out of the open source plan, I am going to be extremely disappointed.

I agree, although we'll have to be responsible with what we're given. Thus the Guilds will keep everything balanced. With great power comes great responsibility :D

As I posted on the MOUL forum, I think if Cyan had funding, they would have said through the DRC "we have funding." Think about what will happen next, IC. Well, the DRC didn't say "we got funding," nor are they likely to find a sack of money in the cavern when they get there.

My bet is still on Open Source Uru. I'll be happy with anything, frankly, but Open Source has the greatest chance of survival in my opinion.
