Introduce Yourself

General debates and discussion about the Guild of Writers and Age creation

Hi all.

I'm Myst/Riven/URU player over three years now and I'm a lurker.

So basically since I finished Myst V in (quick check ), 2006 I was looking at different community forums (including this one) but never get urge to participate (in a forum that is).

Although during this time I tried to learn Blender in order to use PRPplugin to make Ages, getting through first threshold was to much for me, and my energy depleted.

Now after long time of anticipation, then Myst Online is breathing once again (and after beating the same game one more gazillion time) I find my self again, full of energy to face my nemesis again (actually it is a duo: Blender + my lack of 3D artist skills).

So, hopefully You will see some work done by me finally.

P.S.
First efforts I will put to finally make those two shells in Ahra Pahts, witch I have reserved years ago (nr 126, and 437), but be patient:
Those shells have not yet been written.

I have been playing the MYST series of games for several years now of which URU is my favorite. MYST V was not very satisfying to me and sort of a step backward technologically, and didn't like the fact that I was left on the balcony while Yeesha and Atrus walked off into the sunset. Anyway, I only recently discovered that there was an off line version of MOUL. I had just downloaded the fan ages when URU Live came back on line. Now I have both. To say the least, I'm thrilled with both. The only thing I would like to be able to do is find a version of the online files to convert via Drizzle like I have my MYST V files.

Hi Sheann,
Well isn't this your lucky day.
You can convert the MOUL:Again files using Drizzle, just as you did with your Myst V files.

Thing is though, does that create a second set of files for offline, or does it permanently take away your online files?

The installation you are converting from, no matter whether it is MOUL(again), Myst V, Crowthistle or Hex Isle, is only read, but left unchanged. So MOULagain will continue to work just like before, the files will stay the same.

Huh, I just realized I've never actually posted in this thread.

I'm Tweek, I've been floating around the Myst community for 12 years or so now.

I started "hacking" when Uru Prologue closed down in 04, switching files to get back into the city in UruABM then tinkering with the python files to get things back and what not.

I graduated to Age building in Sept 08 when I started working on Fahets. About a year later I released Tochoortahv, or Cass as it is now known, a few months after that I released Fahets.
Most of the stories for my Ages and their restoration etc gets posted on my Uru blog, Beneath

I'm an artist and designer by trade, most of my focus was on creating worlds through paintings and whatnot, so Age building gave me a perfect opportunity to create things people can actually walk through.

If you can play MOULagain, then yes, you already have all the files you need.

Thanks, I knew I was being a little thick headed  Sorry for dragging the introductions off topic, but couldn't determine where to ask the question. I'll try to do better in the future

I probably should get my user ID in line with my online persona (Hefred KI # 00232078) Sheann is my wife :)

Well, this thread is called "Introduce Yourself", so yeah: Hi everyone!

I'm The.Modificator (though most people simply call me Modi) and I am around the Uru community since 2003. After the first Uru Live was cancelled, I joined the good old COBBS H'uru forum and was active there for a while. (Before the big server crash under the name "Idmo" and after that as "The.Modificator".) I did some work on the COBBS Wiki and wrote one or two plug-ins for the old PRPExplorer. Besides being interested in PRP and especially Python hacking I also contributed some code to the Alcugs server.

During the UU times, I continued developing my own KI version which a friend and I used to create a storyline on a German-speaking shard that I also had admin rights for. (Actually the story was carried on to other English-speaking shards as well, but I didn't use my custom KI there.) I didn't publish any of that KI code though. (The reason for this was mainly that the only place where such code would be in more or less good hands was the Guild of Admins... and I was never invited there. ;) )

With the death of UU and the birth of the GameTap incarnation of Uru I pretty much paused all my work on hacking Uru. Since the workload of the real life increased during the GameTap time, the death of this Uru incarnation actually wasn't all too inconvenient for me. I disappeared from the community almost entirely. (With the exception of translating the Myst Online web pages to German and proof-reading some German texts for the Myst iPhone version.)

When I heard recently that Uru has come back yet another time, I joined the community once again. Since a lot of stuff changed since COBBS and UU times, I had to get used to Hacking Uru once again. But now I'm all set, ready for Open Source. ;)

In the last few days I made myself familiar with the PRP structure once again (but with much more detail this time - thanks to all the work that was done in the meantime) and set up a contrib folder for me in the PyPRP SVN where I already committed some bugfixes and some Plasma GUI classes.

About my qualifications: I'm not all too bad at programming (in the relevant languages C++, Python, Java), I understand how Plasma deals with PRP objects (at least from an age designer's perspective) and I can do modelling in Blender.

I hope this is enough for an introduction. ;)

Cheers,

The.Modificator
