dear gods, help the n00b. put this in a freaking sticky.

Postby awibs » Tue Mar 23, 2010 1:55 am

Hi all.

Long time fangirl since high school, thrilled about MOUL and all, excited to play fan ages. NOWHERE can I find a bloody sticky thread telling me where to get whatever dowload/programm/app that will allow me to play the worlds. I try not to be an offensive n00b, I swear to god I've looked for stickies and faqs in every forum and subforum I can bloody well google up for the last two hours. All other forums and sites eventually send me here. The internets is full of locked threads that say "Hey guys, how do I install and play a fan age?" and mods saying "You should ask at GoW. LOCKED." I tried to search your forums before asking stupid questions, but wherever your "how-to-for-n00bs" thread or FAQ is here, I can't find it.

Please and kindly, would someone be willing to sticky the "Read First: How to Install and Play Fan Ages" thread for me? Then hit my dumb head with it?

Thanks.

Okay, #1. Fan ages currently only work with the stand alone Uru: Complete Chronicles game and will not work with MOUlAgain, yet.

#2 If you have Uru Complete Chronicles, and wish to explore fan ages offline then this is the link you want Playing Fan Ages I would suggest using UAM to install them.

That being said Awibes underline a good point: we need a bloody n00b thread. A regular n00b thread won't be enough.

Thank you very much for the link. That would be wonderful if it were stickied both here and on the MO:UL forums, among other places.

Here's the thread for Drizzle24: http://forum.guildofwriters.com/viewtopic.php?f=87&t=4250 With the UAM tab of it, you can install all the fan Ages, and also the Offline-KI which is necessary. These same tools are used for online shards with fan Ages/converted Ages. (Moulagain doesn't support fan Ages/converted Ages. Moulagain is just Cyan's bare-bones shard.)

The GoW shouldn't have an official recommendation, so stickies are a problem. But the Drizzle & Offline-KI subforum is the one dedicated to what you want.

I sorta agree that should not have an 'official' recommendation, however we should present the various possibilities in a clear manner to new comers.

Well, there is a Wiki, and there is an article in it: http://www.guildofwriters.com/wiki/Playing_Fan_Ages (to which there is a link on main wiki page in "introduction" section),
so in my opinion is a mater of more exposing a wiki site (on top of forum, there should be the same links as on main http://www.guildofwriters.com page).

It's there. Look at the top right. It could definitely be easier to see, though.

Yes I know. _I_ use it all the time. But looking at it fom n00b perspective, who visits site for first time: it's not quite expose.

I definitely agree. Who in the devil ever visits the main site anyway? It's a PoS.
