D'ni Boat

If you feel like you're up to the challenge of building your own Ages in Blender or 3ds Max, this is the place for you!

D'ni Boat

Postby ZURI » Mon Mar 29, 2010 11:17 am

Several days ago, during a discussion - Justin brought up the need for a D'ni inspired boat. As a result, I've started a side-project with the intentions of filling this need. This is my first attempt at this, so it's not perfect. It might need to be cleaned up a bit if you choose to use it in a large age. The poly count for the boat is around 13,000 vertices. This could be lowered easily by replacing some of the higher detailed meshes. As it is, it should work well as a centerpiece in a smaller age.

All of the textures used are free (made by me), and open for you to use and/or modify at your pleasure. I will make the attempt to release 2 or more variations in the following weeks.

I plan to build a Large (20+ people) version as well as a smaller, (think Canoe) simpler version.

If you export the blend it is fully playable and has a simple collision mesh for the floor. This will probably need to be redone as well, if you plan to actually use it. The collision mesh was made in hurry and is not exactly elegant. :D

Either way, I hope some of you can make use of this. When I have more models ready, I will post the links to them in this thread.

Enjoy!

Hehe, almost forgot the link!

Edited: This second link is for the textures. They are not packaged into the blend.

Ah, I forgot about your kayak J'Kla. Maybe a long "Native American" style canoe then.

The boat looks /very/ D'ni-like, actually, love it!

@Chacal, Kaelis - Thank for for the kind words. :) Remember you're all free to do what you want with it. I hope to get a pleasant surprise someday when I unsuspectingly walk into someone's new age. :D Hehe, I'd really like the see Ferry Terminal full of boats facing the right (up) direction! Or, maybe one of the myriad other docks that must exist in the Cavern? :P

Let's put one smack in the middle of Minkata and let explorers figure it out.

How about a boat that'll ride the Bevin's molten lake.
