Winodws 7 mystery glitch. I need help!

Postby Aikijitsu » Sun Apr 11, 2010 6:50 am

Okay, so I attached a picture of the glitch. I don't know when it happened, but I'll tell you guys the events that lead up to me discovering it.

I have windows 7 64-bit.

1. I woke up from a nap and hopped onto Firefox.

2. In my drowsiness, I accidentally went to facebok.com

3. I got directed to a fake facebook that started spamming me with pop-ups.

4. I couldn't close firefox, so I used task manager to shut down firefox.

5. I ran firefox in safe mode because facebok.com became my home page. I restored the original home page in FireFox.

6. I was getting ready to cook dinner, so I decided to shut off my computer.

7. I clicked the start menu, and my "shut down" button was gone!

8. I went to task manager again to try to shut down my computer. I noticed the glitch (see picture).

9. I managed to restart my computer, and the shut down button was back. I checked task manager. it was still messed up.

10, I ran a full system virus scan with both the Windows 7 client scan, and with Avast! antivirus. No viruses found.

11. My mom suggested to do a system restore since it could be a new virus.

12. After system restore, The task manager was still bugged.

13. I looked for about an hour on the internet, and found no solutions.

Okay, what do you guys think? Is this si a virus, or should I keep running the windows updates? I'm a little behind because of college projects.

Any help would be appreciated.

For those who can't see the picture, the CPU usage history screen on task manager is segmented, and the line on the RAM usage history screen changed from green to blue.

The CPU display looks completely normal for me - provided you have a Quad-Core processor with hyper threading, which means 8 cores visible to the OS.
I don't have Windows at hand currently, so I can't comment on the RAM diagram.
I prefer e-mails to "diafero arcor de" (after adding the at and the dot) over PMs.

Yes, I have a quad core

Intel i7 Xeon quad core (server)

so you're saying that it's just showing each core separately? If so, then there's nothing wrong. It just confused me since it just looked like this out of the blue.

As diafero said, it looks completly normal. The blue line for the RAM is normal, too.
I don't think your PC is infected by a virus but I suggest to install all patches from "Windows update".

Das Wort "Vegetarier" hat einen indianischen Ursprung und bedeutet übersetzt "Der zu blöd zum Jagen ist".

okay. sounds good to me. Thanks for the help.
Lol, it looks like I'm still used to my single core XP laptop.

I'll get on those updates ASAP. (As Soon As Projects are done)

Confirmed. This is how my task manager looks like.
