I lost PyPRP

Postby katreeny » Sun May 09, 2010 2:29 pm

My fault - I installed libHSPlasma while installing PlasmaShop - and now my PyPRP menus are gone (Blender 2.49b)

How do I get them back? I tried recopying the PyPRP directory into the .blender\script directory and refreshing menus, but that didn't work :(

I'm using Ubuntu 32 bit, version 9.10

libHSPlasma should have no effect on PyPRP.

Do you get any errors if you start Blender from terminal? (blender -w)

Hi Paradox.

I don't get any errors. If libHSPlasma shouldn't affect anything, is it possible I"ve got a confused Blender? (Ubuntu elderly repository version plus manually installed version entirely in one directory - which is the version with PyPRP)

Yes, that's possible... look in your Bender 2.49a directory for a .blender folder, and see if PyPRP is installed there.

Blender sometimes tries to play nice with other versions by keeping its own copy of everything. Too bad it doesn't play nice with us :P

No arguments there!

The \Blender 2_49b\.blender\scripts directory has PyPRP.
The "main" .blender directory (the one where \scripts is basically a redirect to \user\share\ doesn't. SHould I try dropping PyPRP in there?

What really mystifies me is that it worked. Once.

Honestly, you've got to solve more puzzles to make the writing tools behave than you do in the game!

Yeah, that did it. :?: :?: :?:

I'm not quite sure what the heek blender's logic is for this, but copying the scripts from \kate\blender2_49b\.blender\scripts\PyPRP (where you'd EXPECT them to work running blender FROM that blender directory) to \kate\.blender\scripts\ worked.

I shall scratch my head in befuddlement, mutter dire things about taking over different installs, and get back to what I was actually doing ;)

You may recall that upon installing Blender, you were given a couple of options, on where to put stuff. Apparently you chose the User paths (which may be the default now-a-days(?) -can't remember; I always pick the everything-in-the-main-install-directory option, myself).

On a positive note: with your type of setup, you could (I assume) effortlessly set up a second user account, with a different flavour of Blender prefs and goodies, such as the old import version of pyPRP, for easy access.

On Linux, everything is in the home folder. To install PyPRP system-wide would mean running as a superuser to copy the files to a system directory.
