Very very cool Chloe!

However, I think it might be a good thing that the client limits the CustomAvatars. Annoying as it may be for testing, I think lag would become a very serious issue if every single modeller made their own custom avatar model :P I'd prefer to see more clothing options made (perhaps try to duplicate your custom avi based on the shared meshes). Of course, that requires that we can get them working and solve that UV issue...

Yeah, anything global, such as global animations, avatars, KI stuff, clothing, etc, can be a lot of trouble in the long run. Some things can be done, like a Relto page system, where a page's prp is entirely loaded or unloaded, so that many of them do not significantly affect performance.

It looks neat though! Hopefully there can be some way to do it.

I will say this, even without using a custom avatar, it is possible to duplicate what we saw in RealRiven. The bahro in the city, the urwins, even Yeesha, Esher, and Atrus from Myst V all were not avatars. They were all NPCs controlled by python brains. It is entirely possible that we can recreate RealRiven using true NPCs with what we have now.

Slight update. Atrus was controlled by python in Myst V. Also I've managed to figure out the UV mapping for clothing. It's odd. You cannot attach a clothing material to a mesh (As this will cause an error upon export) so you need to assign a different material to your meshes. This material MUST be a plasma standard, all other materials apparently will cause your uvs not to be exported. Go figure, since the material itself is never exported.

Great work Chloe! Just wondering... does this mean we could have D'ni style clothes or a walking stick? or is that too far away?

PS. What's Real Riven? I think I'm out of the loop again...

Once we really hammer out how the clothing works, yeah it would be possible.

realRiven is a nickname of sorts given to a fan age project to recreate the entirety of realMyst style.

That's swapping a texture out. =P

There's /way/ more to clothing than that. =)
