New project, looking for people

Post by Embreon »

Hey everyone,

I'm looking for a group of people that are willing to work together on an age.
This is because my fantasy is almost zero, so it's difficult for me to think of new ages.

A bit about myself,
- I'm 24 years old, studying at the University of Applied Science in Amsterdam.
- I have 7 years of 3ds-max experience, and about 4 years with Photoshop.
- I created several things in 3dsmax for Uru ( here is one of them viewtopic.php?f=93&t=4959 )

I'm looking for a enthusiastic group of: writers, concept artist, 3dsmax moddeler, and musicians.
Before anyone replies here are some things you should keep in mind:
- The project has no deadline, so work on it when you can ( I'm still in school, so there could be times I'm not that active )
- It's a shared project so we "share" our thoughts and try to make it as good as we can.
- Nobody is in charge, so no pushing around. Lets make it a relaxed project.

So when you read this and think: " hey, that applies to me " respond to the post below or just send me a pm.
And lets work together on something amazing !

I'd be willing to pitch in ideas. That's mostly all I'm good for (a bit of basic writing, drawing, puzzle design stuff, but not much). I can think up of lots of ideas for Ages (and other things).

Hey, your most welcome to share any of your thoughts!
And when there is concept art, we could start working on it ! ;)

Depending on what you want to do, as I try to stay inside the lines when it comes to canon and whatnot, I would be interested in working as part of a joint team. The DRA Adrael group of ages is a great example of cooperative age-building. :D

If you want to see a portfolio, go onto Drizzle and check out Llantern. Not all the meshes are mine, but I have an understanding about how to do most graphical stuff in Max optimally these days. Just don't come to me for coding. D:

@Wamduskasapa
Listened to a couple of those files, and must stay they sound pretty good !

@ N. Sigismund
Always nice to have another modeler, and I looks pretty good what you made on the pictures a saw on the forum.
I don't have any skill on plasma encoding so we should ask one of the programmers ;)

Cheers. I feel that if two modellers are on board, things can go much faster. Generally for general scenic ages programming isn't really neccesary.

This intrigued me enough to egg me into creating an account just so I could post, haha

I may be interested in being a part of this team as a concept artist. Any details to this I should know about?

I'm just throwing up the ball to get few enthusiastic people together, for now I don't have any idea on what we are going to make :P
I just made a age a few day's ago to get the feeling back with the plasma engine.

In normal game development, the writer thinks up a story where the concept artist translates this to images.
Then the modelers create what on the image ....

So to start we should think of a story / idea on what we are going to make.

Things like this always intrigued me, but thats just me of course ;)

And yesterday I had a idea of creating a round surface ( flat ) with a huge symbol in it. And this symbol was carved into the surface and filled with water.
In the center of the plane there would be a round "tunnel" going straight down where all the water would collect into small waterfalls. And at some places
on that plane there would be nature ( tree's, grass, flowers etc ).
Show Spoiler

This plane would be floating together with different "islands" and these would be different.
Show Spoiler

But except for this my mind if filled with Math for tomorrows exam

First off, is the white ground just there to not bother with a different kind of ground, or is it supposed to be white rock/plastic or snow or something?

What if the symbol carved into the ground was dynamic? Like, several different channels the water could flow through, with gates that could be moved in and out (or maybe some gates which would switch from blocking one route to blocking another) to redirect the water flow. Maybe also have some places where the water flow could be stopped by a person standing/sitting and blocking the flow, which could potentially be used to get through the Age differently if you had friends to help (and would just be cool in general). The changes in the symbol could be practical (needing to cross areas or otherwise change the flow to move around and/or solve puzzles [empty out parts of the canals to get to manholes or natural caves underneath them, run water wheels in the right direction, etc.]) or cosmetic (either to communicate with something, or just to make cool looking designs.

I'm not that much of a fan of floating islands, as they seem to get used a lot and mostly without good purpose. How about monumental cliffs on all sides (ones which reach up as high as mountains - either there's something special about the light source of the planet of the area, or they have very long nights), save for a couple ravines where the water enters in? With some walking and jumping through a ravine, navigating through some caves, perhaps (maybe with stuff you'd need to solve other puzzles in the Age first for), you could get to other areas - maybe a ledge on the side, where you can look down and see the whole plain with the symbol as a small expanse below you. These could be very natural cliffs, or very artificial (or just instead a metal tube and channels entering in and all) depending on how we want the overall look to be (or they could be ice, or organic [inside of a tree], etc.).

Or how about the platform being set in an iceberg (or maybe an odd rock or organic equivalent - so it's stone and all... but acts like an iceberg)? Islands floating... in water, with ice walls perhaps obscuring part of this fact. It could regularly (once or twice a day, perhaps) flip over between one side and the other (two different platforms - one of which would be the symbol one... maybe the other one would be a symbol one too. The two platforms could be interconnected, with the person having to solve one to solve the other, perhaps somehow connected to the waterfall area through the center.
