Blender bugs

Postby bnewton81 » Mon Jun 20, 2011 6:46 pm

I have been trying very hard to only use the 2.57 blender, but keep running into bugs. Pretty serious one too, like my UI flashing out of existence; making it near impossible to use. Blender crashes a lot too. I don't know if the 64bit version is any better, but I don't remember having all these problems with that version. All my drivers are up to date, so I guess I'll just have to look forward to a more stable version to come out soon. I really wish it worked better. I love the new UI and all the really cool improvements.

I guess this thread is for venting Blender frustrations.

It's interesting since my GeForce 275 GTX makes many OpenGL applications flicker and crash. I've had trouble using Blender because of this issue, however Blender 2.5 doesn't have nearly as many problems for me as Blender 2.49.
Currently getting some ink on my hands over at the Guild Of Ink-Makers (PyPRP2).

Blender 2.58 is scheduled for release this week, as Ton Roosendaal wrote in his Blender Developers Meeting Notes two days ago.

Maybe you get more luck with the new version, which will have again lots of bugfixes.

(But I hope we do not loose too many options for PyPRP2 because of the planned removal of the "texture face" part: http://wiki.blender.org/index.php?title ... to/TexFace )

For me the whole UI is fine, no crash but really laggy. Rotating the 3D view is not better, and its exactly the same with a lot or only a few objects in the scene.
However the BGE is really smooth and has no lags. Weird.
I also had a lot of problems with the scroll bars before 2.57.

I did not have any lag or bug with 2.49. I'm waiting impatiently 2.58 !

@Sirius:
Trying other settings than "Automatic" in "User Preferences -> System -> Window Draw Method:" can sometime increase the OpenGL performance in the 3D View window.

After reading these posts I bet it is my gpu which is part of the problem. I have an integrated Intel HD Graphics chip. Some programs have issues with it. I recently updated the accelerator version. I will play with the draw method as well. I really would rather use 2.57, though i must say it was a relief to return to 2.49 and know what i was doing again. lol

Considering it is the Blender UI, this may actually be an improvement...

Good to hear that, Sirius. :)

By the way, Blender 2.58 is available now:

Well there is good news and bad news. Good news: Blender 2.58 is out. Bad news: Can't get Pyprp to work in it. It loads in the addons section, but won't allow me to activate it. I click on the check box, but nothing happens. I'm sure it is a minor bug that can be fixed easily enough.
