What's your personality type?

Postby Jennifer_P » Sat Aug 20, 2011 1:10 am

So we've been having a little discussion of personality type over at Ages of Ilathid, and I was curious as to what you all were. I have a theory that the Myst genre attracts people of certain personality types. :)
If you'd like to help me figure out which ones, go to the following link and take this test: http://keirsey.com/sorter/instruments2.aspx?partid=0

This will (hopefully) tell you which group of personalities you belong to. For extra credit, check out your group's page and figure out what specific type you are:

I love personallity tests; when they are well done they can be quite instructive.
I'm 100% NT (Rationnal); nothing too surprising for me here. But whenever I try to objectively and intuitively answer these test (ie: not cheat) I often get varying results depending on the mood of the day.. Usually I'm of the INTP kind but at times I verge on the INTJ kind; which is odd because it's actually a pretty different personality type (although the 'Mastermind' moniker is pretty fun). Ha well. Guess they need an 'instable' personality type..
The problem with those, is that once you have done too many of them you learn how to cheat at them quite easily.. It's a fun excerice though: "ok, today I try to be an egotistic arrogant prick, and after that I'll be mother Theresa". :P

What's yours Jennifer?

And this is one of the actual science-based ones too. ;) (Well, as much as anything in psychology is scientific.)

I'm 100% NT (Rationnal); nothing too surprising for me here. But whenever I try to objectively and intuitively answer these test (ie: not cheat) I often get varying results depending on the mood of the day.. Ah, a fellow INTP! :) So do you know how to tell apart INTPs and INTJs? The P at the end stands for "Perceiving" and the J at the end stands for "Judging."

Judging:
I like to have things decided.
I appear to be task oriented.
I like to make lists of things to do.
I like to get my work done before playing.
I plan work to avoid rushing just before a deadline.
Sometimes I focus so much on the goal that I miss new information.

Judgers are typically more orderly, want to make decisions as soon as possible, prefer to keep things neat and tidy, and start on tasks right away rather than procrastinating till the last moment. Judgers will tend to pick a choice and stick to it. They like closure and certainty.

Perceiving:
I like to stay open to respond to whatever happens.
I appear to be loose and casual. I like to keep plans to a minimum.
I like to approach work as play or mix work and play.
I work in bursts of energy.
I am stimulated by an approaching deadline.
Sometimes I stay open to new information so long I miss making decisions when they are needed.

Perceivers tend to fly by the seat of their pants and figure things out on the fly. They deal with chaos and disorder more easily than judgers. The joke is that the "P" actually stands for procrastination, because Perceivers tend to want to investigate all their options at length before choosing one (otherwise they might miss out on something good). They are okay with having a bunch of half-finished projects sitting around their messy house.

The INTJs do have a better name than us...I covet it. But ah well, I guess "Architect" is appropriate for Age designers! Maybe the INTPs should have been called the "Writers." :D

The problem with those, is that once you have done too many of them you learn how to cheat at them quite easily.. It's a fun excerice though: "ok, today I try to be an egotistic arrogant prick, and after that I'll be mother Theresa".

Yeah, I know what you mean. :) After you know how it works, you can test as any personality type you want.

God, that is so true it's not even funny.. Half finished projects just fill up my hard drive, my shelves and my drawers. But procrastination is only fun up to a certain point.. It's something I've been meaning to change in my behaviour; but damn, is changing hard. :?

Hahaha, you're definitely an INTP then. :) But, don't despair--I have the perfect cure for you. Join a cult! :P They've done studies on cults showing that they transform one's effective personality type into ESFJ, ESTJ, or ENFJ (in that order of frequency). Which personality type you get changed into evidently depends upon the personality type of the cult leader, but rest assured that all of these types are wonderfully organized and tidy. The ESFJ and the ESTJ have the added bonus of being the considered the "ideal" type for American female and male respectively. (Of course I don't know what the "ideal" types are in other countries.) Unfortunately, your personality transformation will only last as long as you're in the cult, but perhaps with judicious return visits you can manage to keep it up.
(On a side note, joining a cult doesn't really change your personality--just masks it with a mentally unhealthy version of one of those three types I mentioned. A researcher noted that INTPs were in the most danger if they joined a cult because their personality got shifted the most dramatically, from Introverted to Extraverted, from iNtuitive to Sensing, from Thinking to Feeling, and from Perceiving to Judging)

Eh, you'll get around to it some day.

...Which raises an interesting question. Do mold monsters have a personality type? I'm guessing Rational for you?

I somehow came up with Artisan. I dunno... Depending on how the question was asked, my answers were wildly conflicting. I guess I like ordered chaos, or maybe chaotic order, depending on the day? It was Saturday when I took the test. It was sunny and the air was dry. Today, Sunday, it's raining, damp, and my spores are saturated.

Hm, interesting. Someone should have written a paper on the personality types of moldmen! :D

I'm glad we have some Artisans here. :) You guys make things fun!

So do y'all know what the rest of the letters mean? Might be able to help you if you're confused about your type.

E - Extraversion
Gets energy from being around other people. Talks more, talks louder. More personally disclosing. Being along drains batteries.

I - Introversion
Gets energy from being alone. Talks less, talks softer. More reserved, less revealing. Being alone energizes them.

S - Sensing
Interested mostly to the input of their senses: sight, smell, sound, taste, touch. Interested in talking about concrete things that exist in real life and can be perceived through the senses. Practical, realistic, down to earth. Interested in facts more than theories. Good at detail, give active attention to their surroundings. Use a "bottom up" learning approach where facts are presented and then principles are given to explain them.

N - iNtuitive
Interested mostly in the abstract: things that can be perceived through the imagination, through symbolism. Interested in theories and ideas. Good at spotting patterns. Use a "top down" learning approach where theories are presented and then facts are given to illustrate them. Focused on possibilities and potentials--what might be, what could be. Inventive and future-oriented.

T - Thinking
Logical, analytical, cool-headed, objective. Firm, less emotional, impersonal. Good at critical thought. Focuses on justice and tells hard truths.

F - Feeling
Warm-hearted, empathetic, listens to heart. Gentle, more emotional, personable. Good at understanding the motivations and feelings of others. Focuses on mercy and softens truth to avoid hurting people.

And of course I've already mentioned J and P.

So--each of the four groups has two letters that define them:
All Rationals have NT.
All Idealists have NF.
All Artisans have SP.
All Guardians have SJ.
