All Guilds Meeting

Postby J'Kla » Sun Nov 06, 2011 2:42 am

We have just had the all guilds meeting (You did not miss much) a good attendance Anabelle did a piece on her marker quests which raised some noob questions that were valid.

Then there was some general talk about Cavecon that raised some awareness of shards and this again started soome general Q&A on shards and virus risk involved (General opinion was little or no risk).

That was about it.

Next time which will be December 3rd I have booked a slot to talk in general about age building as an independent age writer.

I would like to see some of the other age builders there for some general support.

I plan on a general information thing for Noobs.

As I consider myself an independent builder that currently uses Blender 2.49b I would be interested in getting someone to talk about the other options like Blender 2.56 and Studio3dMax I don't want to make it indepth just let people know what's out there and an outline on where to get information.

A little bit on getting your stuff onto Drizzle etc.

I plan on leaving shard development well alone.

I will NOT be talking as a GoW official.

I am posative this will raise some questions re Alcugs and CWE it would be nice if there were someone to answer these but I can allways dodge those if there's nobody there to handle them.

If I have an aim it's to raise awareness of age writing as a posibility.

That I't has a fairly steep learning curve thats not beyond the wit of most in cavern.

And that Blender makes age building effectivly cost neutral (I allways suggest a hardcopy blender book as a reference (Thats an opinion not gospel)).

Consider this a Heads up and Invitation to contribute.

What time/time zone? I'm no one really, but I am a bit above a noob in experience, so if I can help out, I will. Will this be in the cyan uru? What is that called? Moula?

While I have next to nothing to contribute, I may try to be there with a word of encouragement, if nothing else.

If you can help just one other player discover finding age building in any form or aspect enjoyable, that's time well spent.

I wonder how many other games have grandmothers learning 3D modelling and scripting, in order to do level editing... :)

For those that don't know and as a clarification.

8pm GMT there is a meting the first Saturday of the month in the Kirel location (access via nexus) on MOULa (Myst Online Uru Live again) Cyans own shard. Known as The All Guilds Meeting or AGM.

It's usually well atended and it's organised by GoMeLeonardo a member of the guild of messengers.

Anyone can take a slot to speak at these meetings as long as it's Uru related all communication is by keyboard so that a Chatlog of everything can be recorded and distributed by the GoMe guys.

If you wish to ask a question of the speaker you PM GoMeLeonardo and he acts as a sort of majordomo so the speaker does't loose his/her thread in a storm of questions.

Notable speakers in the past have been Brennan (Talking about the current CWE shard Project) OHB (on all of his Bot work and language projects) Annabelle (On skydiving and her marker quests) The guys from GoMe (on their ongoing online magazine).

There's a lot of players out there who just don't know that there are a pile of us writing fan ages and that they can visit them and have a go at building ages themselves.

There's usually a flock of noob players arrive at the meetings just wondering about why there's a crowd in Kirel, so you will allways get some noob questions (not that there is anything wrong with that) it's useful to have support at a talk so that if a noob throws a generic question it can be handled by a supporter using PM.

As has been suggested if I get just one new age writer or one new player visiting fan ages either by Drizzle or on UAM or Deep Island or some other shard I'm unfamiliar with I will consider this a sucess.

I plan on talking from my experience using Blender 2.49b if I can have someone there who's uses later versions of Blender or Studio3dMax it would be nice to have them there to field questions related to those methods of age building.

I plan on sterring clear of Shard development sticking to fan age building and how to look at them.

I know this planned content part is a repeat of my earlier post I just added it for clarity.

I can't say I know all the ins and outs of Pyprp 2, but I have a pretty good grasp of the 2.6 version on Blender. I have never messed with joining the other shards, but I will try and set one up, so that I will at least be able to explain how that is done. Aw crap! did I miss the Saturday meeting? Looks like I did. Well, I'll make the next one.

With the more user friendly texture painting features in blender 2.6 I think a lot more ppl will be able to stick with age development than have in the past. UV texturing, for me anyway, was an almost insurmountable hurdle. I'm still learning about the new features, but by the 3rd I'll have a much better grasp. I think top priority for teaching noobs should be to get them making something in blender and texturing it so that they can see that this is not a group of geniuses or magicians(though some in this guild are eerily, seemingly omnipotent) ; that age design can be done by the average person with a love of Myst. I'll begin work on a short concise video tutorial on creating something (maybe a building) and getting it into uru. Ugh. :? Was that me making a commitment? ;)

Sadly no, I guess I should make my own. I just used it to see if I liked it. I do like it and it is on several of my accounts on the web, so I will make an original soon.
