Making a pond to wade in...

Postby Rhee » Thu Mar 01, 2012 1:19 pm

Hiya. I am wanting to make a little pond that an avvie could go wandering into if they so wished (think the bottom of the Cleft), and while there a plenty of things saying how to make water animations and how to make ripples and so and so forth, I wasn't able to track down the exact information I am looking for, which is as follows:

First off, I am using Blender 2.61.

I have modelled what will be the bottom of the pond. This will have collision (obviously). To create the actual water surface, is it as simple as a plane set with a transparent material and texture? I assume that if i add no collision to it, the avatar would just walk right into it, but as I am having some difficulty getting my ages to export correctly, I am not able to test this (as yet anyway lol).

So, wondering if anyone could a) explain what it is i need to do or b) point me to a tutorial or thread that I have missed in my search that will do the explaining.

Thanks for any help!

Two years ago i posted a little example age with a waveset.

in this thread the fifth post
http://forum.guildofwriters.org/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=4640&hilit=example

You can download it to see how to set it up.
it is a 2.49b file but good change this will do it in 2.6 as well.
Those wonderfull Worlds are called " Ages" , because that is what it takes to build one.

PyPRP1 wavesets will not work in PyPRP2. So far wavesets have not been implemented at all in PyPRP2, actually. For now, the best way to handle a pond on PyPRP2 is with a transparent surface as Rhee mentioned.

Ok , i did not know .
i only work in 2.49 because PyPRP 2 is not matured yet.
In that case an animated layer (or better 2) animated transparent layers will do if you want to have it a bit " vivant"
A nice effect is using two times the same transparent texture's and animated the first up/down and the second left to right.
