Right-click on the Gehn Shard shortcut and select "run as administrator".

I'll fix that error dialog to give good instructions. When that dialog was originally written, Windows Vista/7 didn't exist yet, so we didn't have this UAC crap to worry about.

Anyway :lol: I don't understand why people doesn't desactivate UAC?!?!?

Asking me, the sole administrator, if I mighty sure that the action (let's say: installing a program) I'll do is the one I want to do and that I should make sure that the administrator (me? I look at my right at my left...yep! I'm still the sole administrator) is ok with that "dangerous" task...

I think Microsoft is taking us all as dumb users. Go in your system config and kill the UAC. That's the first thing I've done at each new install of Windows.

Cool, Annabelle ... but I even ask myself why to kill any UAC (I was just asking Google what that is lol) ... :P

As of my control panel I am operating as administrator, though I'm being asked by some apps or operations
sometimes if I am really the one lol ... and I didn't have to check the 'run as administrator' authorization on
any shard (Gehn, Minkata, TOC) and not even for MOULa by now ... I have to add that I'm operating alone
on this computer, so, this may be different for families and friends using one and the same ... :)

Thanks got in at last, but ran into a problem. Went to Er'cana, rode the hopper into the factory, pressed the lever to send it back out and was disconnected, so could not push the shell symbol inside. When i got back on the game I deleted the book and went back and started all over again. The problem is that the book did not delete and the age stayed the same. Exited the the game and logged in again, went to watchers pub and started all over and nothing changed. :shock:

UAC is a good way to ensure no hidden processes are touching the system in ways that I don't approve of. It also gives me visual cues of what the programs I run are actually using. So, yes, I actually appreciate UAC, and you should too. Otherwise, we might as well go back to the days of Windows 98 where anybody could do anything and screw up the entire system.

Precisely. While it may be a hassle to authorize an installation you've initiated, UAC protects you most from ones you haven't. That is the true purpose.

Yet I cannot help thinking a bad person can still be sitting behind my PC(somehow still logged in) and still click on "yes" and install crap. On Linux you at least have to enter a password.
Code: Select all
long longestTimeWithoutPlayingMoula = (new Date()) - (new Date(2014, 9, 26));

IIRC, Windows functions the same way if you are not logged in as a user with Administrator privileges. There may be a way to make the password check mandatory, but I'm not sure about that.

Anyway...I get all your points, you have valuable arguments.

The thing is that a malicious program won't try to install itself on the user layer, it's coded to install on itself without asking on a inferior layer of authorisation.

So the only thing I'm avoiding is the hassle to be asked if I'm a dumb woman :lol: by Windows.
