MinkataSoccerField Update

Postby Karkadann » Sat Aug 24, 2013 3:37 pm

Here is the latest update on the Minkata Soccer-field for Uru CC in order to add it I use Urufun 2.0 from here to open the Minkata age file and add this line Page=minkSoccerpage,13

http://www.mediafire.com/download/hnu14 ... Update.rar

Im pretty sure its finished however Im also pretty sure I may have missed something.

When Diafero gets back from vacation I wanted to ask him if there is any way to add this to the UAM and possibly the DI Shard
The older version of the soccer field has over 50 downloads I figure this would make it easer.

A big thanks to all who helped out, I could not have done it without you

Ooh, I hope the answer is yes.

And, off topic briefly, Karkadann, do you also plan to get the new jack-o-lanterns on UAM? I'd like to see them too :)

Misleading URL... It took me forever to figure out how to download this file... Right clicking the link you put and downloading the rar that way gives you a corrupt rar file. It goes to a webpage rather than directly to the file, despite the file extension being in the name...

Also, where did janaba get the croquet field for those pictures? Not that I know how croquet works, but wow, how many sports fields did you make? It looks like there is a jerry can there too! Do you have an archive of all the different add-on prp type things you have made?

The url isn't misleading, Ehren ... did you never download sth from MediaFire/rapidshare or other similar file sharing/hosting services ... I also have a MediaFire account and never did I or anyone I know have a problem with that, it is fast and comfortable and it is free ... you just have to click that big download button on the MediaFire page you're linked to to start to get the file (for direct linking service you have to acquire a paid account btw) ... :P

Besides that you or anyone interested can find the Minkata Croquet Field here ... I didn't include it in my ages PDFs yet btw as it isn't provided by UAM/Drizzle/DI yet and is thus only explorable when one knows about it and where to download it, but maybe I should add it nonetheless and add a link to the forums here as I did with the Minkata Soccer Field which isn't available through Drizzle too, I don't know if people have it on the DI shard ... :)

It's misleading in that the URL appears to point directly to a file resource, not an HTML page named after the desired file resource. Unfortunately, as you note, this is common for free shared file hosting services.

How are these patches installed? If it's just about dropping a prp file into the dat folder, then yes, I could put that on UAM - would probably start a new category together with Race's Myst V age fixes/patches. However, I don't think I would install this one on DI, it massively breaks the immersion in Minkata.

If existing file need to be *modified*, we need to find a better solution for the installation...

unfortunately the age file hasta be modified, im not sure how you would do that this case. I was hoping it could be installed in a way where it would be an optional download for Minkata on DI so those who wish to use it can and those who prefer the immersion of Minkata to be as is can do that to.
Somewhere in a parallel world somebody build a soccer field in Minkata inspired by the existing soccer ball and the wide open spaces but its only there if you know how to get to that particular world. I always thought linking technology had something to do with the multiple world interpretation of quantum mechanics I guess this might fit in as one of the other worlds where the decisions that were made led to this particular version.

also I was wondering when you get a chance if you could install the Jack 'O' lanterns update
on this page

That's a no-go for UAM integration. What we could do is using the same solution as we did for Race's additions, Dustin's fixes etc. - tell the Offline KI to dynamically load the file if it is present. The only problem here is that this requires the Offline KI to know about these files, so either each newly added page requires an Offline KI update or we need to find (yet another) config file format dropped into some folder which tells the KI about such files - and someone needs to implement this...
Also, providing modifications to existing ages opens a can of worms. I mean, where do we stop? Do we allow people uploading a prp file which changes another fan-age? This is not to say I am opposed to the idea, it's just a bit more problematic than you may think ;-)

I was hoping it could be installed in a way where it would be an optional download for Minkata on DI so those who wish to use it can and those who prefer the immersion of Minkata to be as is can do that to.
Well, the download cannot be optional because for a Shard, everyone must use the same version of the age. Remember, everything is more complicated on Shards ;-) . Imagine two people in Minkata, one having the soccer field installed and one without it - chaos  . So it'd need to be a per-age choice, stored somewhere in the age's information like the SDL or the age vault, and some way to control this - in other words, lots of work for which I unfortunately do no have the time (or motivation).

I must have missed that, added it to my ToDo-list. In the future, best thing to do is email me (see my signature) about such updates :)
