blocking “Panic Link” in a defined area?

Postby rocketdog » Mon Dec 23, 2013 9:09 am

Is there a way of blocking “Panic Link” in a defined area?

In the age I’m working on the avatar must link out at a certain height. But I would like to have a tunnel that the avatar can take that is below that panic link height without linking out.

You will need to create a bunch of panic regions for that height, leaving the tunnel outside all of them. There is no such thing as a panic-link-region-inverter.
I prefer e-mails to "diafero arcor de" (after adding the at and the dot) over PMs.

I have a panic link plane set up around my age, I went outside that area and dropped the avatar and it still panic linked out. Are you sure that leaving holes in the panic area will work? It almost seems as though the height is set no mater where in the age the avatar drops through that height.

I just removed my last post I thought putting holes through the panic link plane worked, but I had removed the panic link from the plane. So putting holes through the panic link plane didn't work. Now I'll try setting up four panic link planes around the tunnel

Creating a bunch of panic regions around the tunnel didn't work. I guess the panic link height is universal across the entire age.

Anyone know a way around this problem?

The actual panic link region tends to extend beyond the shape its attached to, planes always acted a bit weird in plasma and I very seldom use them.
try a few experiments I noticed the panic link region seems to extend more from a plane then it does a box. you might hafta make the holes in your panic link region a bit larger to accommodate this.

First of all, as far as I know there is no "panic link height". Instead, you are defining a "Panic link region", a volume in space, and a panic link is triggered when you enter that volume.

Also, as Karkadann indicated, the volume you give in Blender is not actually the one Uru will use. The effective region will be the convex hull of the region you gave. So you should make your region convex, to ensure you see what Uru actually uses. The reason for this is that with convex hulls, it's computationally much easier to check whether you are inside or outside the region.

Panic Link zones can have the shape of a box. Grab a plclient & link in a private city instance on MOULa. The panic link zones are in light blue. Check around the canyon, bridge, & library cliffs using the flymode & these 2 commands in the plasma console:

karkadann was correct it was the planes that were causing the problem I ended up using five boxes and that fixed it, I would have never found it without your suggestion.

Thank you all for helping me with this problem.

PS: I forgot to mention creating holes through a box didn't work I had to use separate boxes around the tunnel.

Glad you got it working :)

That's exactly what I meant by saying that Uru will use the "convex hull" of a box for actual region detection. Also see the wikipedia explanation: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Convex_Hull
