The Terahnee descriptive book was found hidden in D'Ni.
A book linking back to D'Ni was found on Terahnee, we can assume it as a linking book, as I suppose the author would have mentioned it if it was the descriptive book.
As BAD said, destroying a descriptive book will not destroy the Age, but it will destroy any link to it.
This is possibly supported by the Myst games storyline, although I would have to do Myst IV again to confirm.

Be forwarned however..there are some things in the Books that do not match what is canon now. Such as the physical location of the Cleft.
This is because when the books were written was before well before Uru. But there are only a few things like that.

Other than that, it's a gripper. I had a hard time putting the Reader down.

Just received and read Book of D'ni myself. Purchased used on Amazon for 5 bucks.

There are a few possibilities here. One is that the book seen on Terahnee back to D'ni/Earth was actually it's descriptive book, and the group that became the D'ni broke off from the main group after they evacuated to Terahnee, leaving their descriptive book there. The only other alternatives (which allow for the D'ni descriptive book being intact, and safe) are
a> The book is in D'ni itself, possibly under miles of rock under the cavern, or
b> The book is in another age, possibly written for the sole purpose of protecting the book. This age would not need to be booby-trapped, it would simply need to have it's descriptive book destroyed, so that no links back to it could ever exist.

That would keep both Ages alive, even if Garternay died!
